For my 12 year old. He's been using a loaner, but it's time to break down and buy his own. It seems that both models receive great reviews. One thing .... He shoots left handed. Tough to find a lefty gun, so which model will eject away from his arm/face?

Havent had as much experience as the normal 10/22 but I think its ideal for young kids. Bought one for my little girl

(She hasnt shot it yet though. Shes 3 and is not quite big enough. Plus 22lr has been tough to find lately)

I shoot left handed and enjoy our Ruger 10/22. Ejected casing is not a problem on my right arm.

Thanks dubi. He's handled both guns and seems to prefer the Marlin. Just trying to get some other opinions.

Lefty here. I've got a moderately customized 10/22 and a Winchester 9422, and I love them both.

I have owned a Glenfield 60 and a Browning auto and have fired a 10/22. Can't go wrong with any of them but I prefer the Browning.

The rugers stocks always seemed like they are youth sized to me-- may be a good thing for your 12yo

I had both as a kid. I preferred the 10/22. I liked carrying around a couple of detachable magazines instead of loading a tubular mag in the field.

They're both great rifles, and you really can't go wrong with either.
