After breaking three otter clips, I have switched to wearing cargo pocket pants every day, and keep my cell phone in the left one, and usually nothing in the right one. I have really gotten hooked on the convenience and sometimes carry glasses case or wallet in those big square cargo pockets.

Does anyone use those pockets for a gun?

Is it a bad idea? Is there a pistol that fits those pretty well?

I'd stick with something light and well holstered.

For me it's a moot point: If I wear cargo shorts then it's also a 99.9% probably that my shirt is untucked. And if my shirt is untucked then I'm carrying IWB.

I've carried my XD-SC9 in my cargo pocket before. Mostly did it because I knew I'd be sitting (driving) most of the time and it was much more comfortable (and I guess probably a lot easier access) that way than IWB. Nobody seemed the wiser that I had it in my pocket.

It took a little getting used to when walking, because it would bounce around a little bit on my thigh. But since I never planned on it being a regular occurrence, it was easily dealt with. I'm sure with a good pocket holster you could make it very comfortable and practical without much effort.

I did this for a while before I figured out that my draw time was seriously compromised by securing my pistol in my right side cargo pocket. Also, I got really tired of the added weight swinging around in the cargo pocket constantly slapping up against my leg every time I took a step.

Would recommend the IWB holster, which doesn't have to be anything fancy.

But, it's whatever works for You. Just make sure you can get to it quickly when you need it. Good luck!

I carry a Sig 938 in Desantis Nemesis in a cargo pocket often. other than an occasional banging against the knee if you have to run, it's very comfortable and easy to retrieve. I also notice it doesn't print at all if you use a pocket holster. If I'm going to a movie or driving long distance, its seems to be the best place because it's easy to get to in a sitting position.

Unless you have some sort of holster set up for a large cargo pocket, your gun is going to be banging around in your pocket when you walk(uncomfortable), and will be hard to draw quickly/effectively (not smart).

As others mentioned: If I'm wearing cargo shorts, I'm wearing an untucked shirt so I can just use a OWB/IWB holster anyway. More secure, easier to draw from....I can't see a single advantage cargo pocket carry has over one on your waist.

I carry my LCP in a pocket holster in a cargo pocket all the time. I have 2 pairs of shorts that have smaller pockets on one side so it fits snug

S&W 5-shot j-frame in a Desantis Nemesis works great in this setup. FWIW

It works, with a large enough holster and gun, but I'd still stay light. (My 329NG works well, this way.)

I also carry an LCP in a cargo pocket occassionally. Use a Talon wallet holster, so it prints like a square wallet.

Clint Smith has said repeatedly that a pistol should "comforting, not comfortable."

If its comfortable to the point that it will be carried everywhere, then what's the problem? I never thought that comfort was a drawback(this is why I pocket carry and often in cargo pockets too).

Note that comfort is not disrespect for the guns power, that is still very much respected.

Agree!!! I would choose a method that makes it more probable that I will have my gun on me at all times out in public.

Stitching some velcro to the pocket, and somehow putting it to the back of the holster, sounds like a good idea.

Maybe something like those CCW Breakaway pants? (I keep meaning to order a pair of those.)

Ive been able to carry my kel-tec P3AT in all my pockets no problem, dont notice the added weight when walking around and its easy to draw with or without the holster
