Looking for a place to stay on the Frio in the next month or two for 8-16 people. Any recommendations on a particular place, or a rental website with lots of listings?

Frioman.com
Frioriverresort.com
Mountainvalley.com

Google frio river lodging or frio river vacatiob rentals and you'll get the 5 or so rental companies.

There might not be much inventory this late into the season.

I've stayed at Neals several times. It's on a beautiful spot of the river. They have several spots that sleep 12-14.

Yes, that is kind of the problem. Hence the need to start looking in other places that I might have overlooked.

just got back from a family trip. Found a place called Bent River Cabins - really enjoyed. Have stayed a Neals's and actually preferred this place. Nice section of the river right out front. I think they have a very large cabin for rent. good wifi, as well.

The Frio Pecan Farm is awesome with great river frontage, rope swing and twenty foot jumping cliff. We have a group of 10-20 that spend a week there every July. One of the kids with us had a deer eat watermelon from his hand one evening.

Some on here that haven't been mentioned...

Frio River Resorts
Frio Fun
Frio Country

I actually called Frio Country last week and they still had an 18 person house available for Memorial Day weekend.

Ive stayed with Frio River Resorts the last two years and the Hightowers who run it are really nice people. I'd recommend them and they have a lot of houses to choose from. As was said before though, availability now is going to be tough.

Looks really nice. Was actually on our short list. How is the distance from the river?

We've been staying with Frio Fun for the last decade. We've been in their Longbranch house since it was finished in 2005.

I booked late one year and most of the main spots were all filled up. The last three years i had booked with Casa Rio Rentals. I have stayed at all three of the spots they rent. 1st year in a house on the frio that you can walk down private steps to the river. We actually floated from it one day, and floated to it the next day, cuts down on the trucks needed and such. She has a cabin called hideaway that is next door to frio country store, easy 100yd walk to the river, and another smaller place that is about 1/4 mile to the river as well.

I have also rented from Frioman. He has some pretty cool places but availabilty may be tough. Kickin Back is neat and not too booked, but not close to water.

Hope you have fun whereever you stay.

After a better year last year, it looks like we're in for another crappy year on the Frio.

Water is currently flowing at 23 cu ft/sec

I would recommend staying in the Cypress Bend subdivision if at all possible. The houses off of Comanche Crossing are just up the street from the river and a small crossing (not one of the main ones on River Road at Frio Country and 7 bluff). Cypress Bend is just past the Frio Country crossing on your left.

There is a stage right next to the crossing and usually in the evenings they have bands come and play right on the river. Nobody notable or anything but live music is always a good time. After we get done floating we usually grab some more beverages and walk down there. That being said I don't know if your taking your family there or anything, but it is more of a younger crowd there.

As far as the flow goes, ya it's back down again. They were getting rain in the area today, but it looked like everywhere around it got rain except for the Frio. Last year at this time (first week of May) the flow was at 30 I believe so it's not a whole lot different. That area just got a whole lot of rain during the month of May and the flow shot up into the 60s by Memorial Day when we went. So it's nothing unusual they just need rain. Good thing is it's supposed to rain I think 6 of the next 8 days down there though.

Frio family getaway.

Please be courteous and avoid loading and unloading in the middle of the river crossings.

anybody have any idea how to rent the houses not on the web? people to talk to? numbers to call? we have a house with a pool that sleeps 18 booked for memorial day weekend. next year i'd like to look at the places in the older subdivisions that have private river access. not individually from the house but private for the subdivision. i've looked at all these websites and can never find houses like that. we drove around a bit last year and saw some for rent signs in those areas so i know they're out there...

Doing a Bachelor party at the Frio in August 8-11, and i am all ears to the prime location.

There will be approximately 12 of us, river frontage would be great.

Specific Suggestions?

Distance from the river depends on where you decide to put in. If you put in at Seven Bluffs, it's only about 1/4-1/2 mile from the house. Easily within walking distance.

Keep in mind that Andy's Tubes right on the corner of River Road and 127 rents tubes and also has a shuttle from his place to both the 7 Bluff crossing and the Frio Country crossing. 7 Bluff is pretty much an all day float and Frio Country is about 4 hours. The shuttle picks up at the Neal's Lodges crossing at Hwy 127 and then takes you back to Andy's.

I've used Andy's every time I've gone to the Frio and always have been extremely happy. I take a big group there for Memorial every year and he even remembers us when we come back. The last couple years he has even picked us up and dropped us off at our house directly. I believe he usually does that for large groups as well. Andy's is also within walking distance of a lot of houses and cabins too. Just something to keep in mind.

SLF11 - See my previous post about Cypress Bend. That would be a good location. Also, the Mountain Valley subdivision has a lot of newer houses and most all of them have pools. They will also be in walking distance of the House Pasture restaurant/bar which usually always has live bands playing throughout the summer. May be a fun place to walk over to at night. Mtn Valley isn't on the river though so you'll have to use a shuttle.

I just looked at all of the river frontage houses on Frio River Resorts and they are already booked for the weekend your planning. I would start looking at all of the websites listed here and try to lock something down quick.

Which crossing is the 7 Bluffs Crossing?

Is this it?

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=concan,+tx&hl=en&ll=29.536569,-99.71355&spn=0.003776,0.004823&sll=29.817178,-95.401291&sspn=0.963905,1.234589&t=h&hnear=Concan,+Uvalde,+Texas&z=18&layer=c&cbll=29.536388,-99.713231&panoid=r6zXX2m6gwFd71gLASr_jQ&cbp=12,282.78,,0,11.84

I'd also like to throw out a recommendation for Fat Rob's tubes. Good people, good tubes, and good prices.

Chip -

Ya that's 7 Bluffs.

This is Frio Country crossing.

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=concan,+tx&hl=en&ll=29.515205,-99.697393&spn=0.002955,0.003932&sll=29.817178,-95.401291&sspn=0.963905,1.234589&t=h&hnear=Concan,+Uvalde,+Texas&layer=c&cbll=29.515104,-99.697485&panoid=Ix2Y_MHS323HtKyxMzv4CQ&cbp=12,323.3,,0,6.81&z=18

And this is Neal's Crossing as you drive into Concan on Hwy 127. This is where the floats end and you can start at Frio Country or 7 Bluffs.

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=concan,+tx&hl=en&ll=29.495237,-99.711701&spn=0.000744,0.000983&sll=29.817178,-95.401291&sspn=0.963905,1.234589&t=h&hnear=Concan,+Uvalde,+Texas&layer=c&cbll=29.495236,-99.711598&panoid=rnaPgF9JebPbamCOdEtfDQ&cbp=12,1.17,,0,1.84&z=20

We normally just float from 7 Bluffs to Commanche Crossing. Occasionally we'll go to FCS, but that's a longer walk home.

Especially with how low the river has been the last 4 or 5 years, we're usually content to just drop anchor upstream from Commanche Crossing and try to empty the coolers.
