How long do you want to ignore this user?
My 9 y/o son wants to go camping this weekend, he has only been camping once on Conroe a couple years ago. My question is we will be tent camping so I need advice on which to go to, Gibbons, lake Somerville, or Lake Bryan? Never camped on any of these so comments are welcomed.

Drive over to Huntsville and go to the state park. They have nice campgrounds, a nice lake, paddle boats, all kinds of hiking/bike trails.

Somerville. You should be able to catch white bass and catfish on the points (if y'all are into fishing).

Of those three, I would also say Somerville. There are both state parks and US Army Corps of Engineers parks to choose from. Both have websites where you can reserve campsites. This time of year, it's a good idea to reserve ahead of time.

If you are willing to drive a bit, then look at Fairfield Lake and Hunstville State Parks, along with the US Army CoE parks at Granger Lake (east of Georgetown, near Taylor). Brazos Bend S.P. isn't too far either, and Stephen Austin S.P. even closer. There is also a state park near Mexia that is pretty good, but I cannot remember the name.

If you haven't been there, you also need to do Enchanted Rock State Natural Area north of Fredericksburg. One of the better tent camping places in central TX, but unfortunately a few hours away from B/CS. Well worth the trip though.

I believe the SP at Mexia is Ft Parker. I've driven around and it's average.

Enchanted Rock is one of the gems of the Texas Park System. As is Lost Maples and Garner.

Of the options you have, Lake Somerville for sure. There are corps of engineers campgrounds that don't have as much in the way of activities right there, but are usually less crowded than the SP.

Went to Gibbons last weekend and enjoyed it! I was in a camper, but the tent area looked pretty nice.

Somerville is nice but I think Hunstville is much better. And they're both only about 45 minutes from BCS.
