I may sell a gun on gunbroker.

But I don't really have a box ready to use.

What do y'all use?

8" x 4" x 52", 200# crush test corrugated box. I make my own from a sheet or another box. The only place I know to get them is Uline.com but you have to buy about 15 of them at $2.01 each plus freight.

Wrap the gun in a layer of large bubble wrap and check it for anything trying to poke through (like sights) and tape another piece of bubble wrap over that.

Either buy a hard case at Academy/Walmart or buy a cheap soft case and box it up. I kept a box from a PSA upper that was a nice cardboard box with foam inside of another cardboard box that was very sturdy.

If you don't have the original box, I recommend two options:

1)Container store has a some unique shaped boxes. There is one that is a big bigger than needed for a rifle or shotgun, but it will work fine.

2)If you want more protection, buy a hard plastic case on amazon. It will come in a box. Ship the rifle inside the plastic case INSIDE the box. This is how I have shipped rifles. With no writing on the outside, no one can tell it is a firearm. Very good protection.

If you do find a rifle or shotgun box from a manufacturer, wrap it in brown crate paper to ship. Nothing like a big green 'Remington' on the side of the box to advertise what you are shipping...

wrap in bubble wrap, put in box, fill with packing peanuts. when wrapping in bubble wrap cover it and tape well enough that the styrofoam from the peanuts doesnt work its way into the rifle

Also, what kind of gun are you selling? You may be able to sell it here and avoid shipping...

After receiving two guns off gunbroker that had broken through the packaging at the muzzle end (no damage thankfully), I think I'd choose the hard case in a cardboard box route.

I've received some of the most ridiculously overprotected firearms and at the same time some firearms that are literally thrown in a cardboard box with no stuffing/wrapping or bubble wrap. Either wrap it really good in bubble wrap or buy a cheap soft case and slide it into the cardboard box. Most of the time you can stop by a gun shop and ask if they have any spare shipping boxes they're going to throw away. We usually throw away 10 boxes a week because we cant store anymore. If you're in Fort Worth stop by and i'll give you one.

This thread reminds me of an old Andrew dice clay joke.

What to you call the box that a gun comes in?

A vaguna!
