My wife went this evening to pick up a prescription from Walgreen's. It's one that they require a photo ID to pick up. She accidentally left her DL at home in her 'other' bag but did have her CHL on her. The fools at the pharmacy are either not authorized to think or not capable. They refused to accept the CHL as a state issued photo ID they requested.
She called their 'customer relations' number and seemed to get the runaround from them, too. She is supposedly going to get a call from senior management in the next day or two...we'll see.

that's a first world problem if I ever heard one.

What location? Here in Bastrop they are horrible too.

I think you are making your wife's mistake of not having her DL into a bigger deal. People at a Pharmacy are not going to be trained to know if a CHL is legit or not. If they were unsure, I am glad they said no instead of possibly making a mistake on handling of prescription drugs.

Walgreens is great for candy. I get my drugs other places.

People do not know how to think anymore, just do as they are told. That's our problem.

Its not that they can out cannot think. Pharmacists have nearly ad much education as a doctor and are hella smart. Its policy and fear of lawsuits that bring this on us.

Kinda related. I used to work for HEB and we weren't allowed to accept CHLs when people were purchasing alcohol. Just company policy.

Doesn't pharmacy's swipe your DL into the system? If so, I guess the CHL wouldn't be able to work.

And cool that your wife has a CHL.

My thought too. I know CVS swipes now because its my understanding it all ties to a central database for dictator obamacare. I assume it was a sudafed type drug and they have put in place severe restrictions to keep people from cooking it into meth and this new database helps them track it across state lines by DL.

The pharmacist or pharmacy tech that refused to accept the CHL is just following rules. If they stopped to consider the lack of logic in every stupid rule they have to follow then nothing would ever get done.

Apparently local TABC folks tell stores/bars that people can only use Texas ID to buy booze, but their website and state office says otherwise.

Need to abolish the TABC!!!

If it was a controlled substance, I approve of this. If it was allergy meds or something that she had filled before, this was stupid.

Your CHL is only a supporting identity document. For scripts, I think you need a primary, two secondary docs or one secondary and two supporting.

Most pharmacasists I know don't even understand basic science. I have yet to meet a single one that I would consider "smart", let alone "hella smart".

Pharmacy is a 4 year post graduate program. So 4 years undergrad + 4 years = 8 years total from HS to Walgreens

Medicine is 4 years undergrad + 4 years medical school + 3 to 5 years residency = 11 to 13 years from HS to practice

Neither consider fellowships that may or may not be required for a specific practice

Damn, I hate defending obama but the sudafed database has been around before he was ever elected pres.

My local pharmacist knows me by name, knows my family and remembers to ask my kid about what he's into (trains, cars, etc). And, he doesn't ask me for an ID (maybe he did the first time we went in - I don't remember).

All of this without pulling up a customer profile on his computer (like I used to use in my former life as a banker). Granted my wife goes in every month or two so he does see a good bit of our family, but you just can't beat a local business that actually cares about clients.

No its not. My wife is finishing Pharmacy school as we speak. It is a 4 year post graduate program in which you are given a PharmD. And yes, pharmacists are very smart individuals, at least the ones I interact with every few days as I am always around them. Also many Pharmacists choose to do residencies as well. This allows them to be Clinical Pharmacists, and these residencies are anywhere from like 2 to 4 years.

Pharmacists are required to memorize something like 100 drugs every couple of weeks. The generic and scientific names, what they do to the body, how they fight what your ailment is, etc. In the state of Texas a Pharmacist can write a perscription with Doctor's approval. A Pharmacist is supposed to know how to diagnose a patient, choose the proper medication, and council the patient on anything and everything that could go wrong.

CHL is a valid, state issued photo ID. They can manually enter the data into their system. Yes, they are morons and they breed.

My guess is the "pharmacists" you are referring to are in fact techs, which only requires a simple test to get certified for. When your job is counting pills, you don't need to know much science.

Typically when you go to a Pharmacy, the first person you talk to is the tech, not the Pharmacist.

I forgot I had mine in a different pair of jeans when I tried to go onto the casino floor in Shreveport once. They wouldn't take it at all. It bothered me until I had a couple of drinks in me.
