I thought this board would appreciate my find in England. Some of the Westminster Abby guides actually knew the location (or just use internet), so the wife and I had to make an extra stop to pay our respects!!

I am so glad that you went to the original site rather than the very bad and overpriced Texas Embassy Cantina off Trafalgar Square.

That is a good piece of history. You should check out Ben Franklin's home not too far from there. IT is over near Whitehall just off the River Thames.

Link to the street view on Google Maps. Where you see the girl in the blue coat is where the paque is located (kindof a walk-through to a back courtyard)

Texas Embassy Cantina has iced tea, and it's not bad.

Also, a cool map of Texas upstairs where travelers have signed their cities.

I watched a lymie eat a crispy taco with a fork and knife and guacamole with a spoon at the Texas embassy. Our waitress was from Tennessee....

If memory serves the Texas Embassy restaurant was in the building that used to be the White Star line offices.

If you are still there go to a pub called The Two Chairmen, its about a five minute walk from the T E Cantina. Worth it.

The old embassy was a dry cleaners when I was there last...

Went to the one off Trafalgar a few years ago but it was closed. I guess I'm happy?

You know a better place to get a margarita in London?

I drank away many a fine nights at TEC. Aggie owned establishment as well.

Cantina Laredo is now up and running in London.

But saying Texas Embassy is the best Margarita in London is a bit like saying that 250 lb. chick is the hottest among a group of of 350 lb. chicks. It is a distinction of sorts, but not a sign of quality.

And when I lived in London (05-07) I struggled to find a good Rita anywhere.

The wife and I stayed at Charing Cross Hotel (got a Travelzoo discount or would be very pricey) on Trafalgar Square a few days before and after our European trip. We feel pretty confident we did most of the tourist stuff that needed to be done. Next time we'd like to venture out more into the rest of the UK.

I'd try your place Puryear, but we've been back since Monday.

If any of you are still there or going, we very much enjoyed our dinner at The White Swan (upstairs portion) on New Row street in the Theatre area. The Roundhouse across the street is a cool, cheap soccer bar.

Also, for 2pound beers and a cool, old vibe go upstairs in the Opera Room. The entry stairs are next to and above the Chandos pub right by the English National Opera house (corner of William IV Street and St. Martin's Lane). They had a large selection of cask Sam Smith's and other nice brews with a standard pub menu.

Maybe we need to take up a collection to buy that space and "reserve it for future use..."
