Just picked up my first 10/22 will post picks of it later, along with the list of what will be happening to it.

They are fun little .22's. Have fun customizing yours. Mine was a stock rifle at one point in it's life, but that was a long time (and decent amount of $ ago).

Overall, probably still my favorite .22 to play around with.

The upgrades I intend to do are:
Hogue overmolded stock Black
Volquartsen Extended Mag Release
Volquartsen Exact Edge Extractor
Volquartsen Target Trigger
Volquartsen Target Hammer with Bushing
E.R. Shaw 18" Heavy Barrel " may eventually upgrade to the Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel"

Have yet to decide on what kind of optics I will use for this project.

I'm eventually going to buy a tactical stock with pistol grip, fore grip, maybe a laser or tac light. I just want it to look bad a**. Plus side is that the parts are relatively inexpensive.

I purchased the stainless carbine last weekend. All I want is a better sight set-up. Any suggestions?

If your going with iron sights, I have shot a few 10/22's with GI style sight on them and they worked really well. Fairly easy to install as well .

I joined the .22 club on sunday also, but with a ISSC Mk22. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no ammo to be had up here in the northeast. I got 80 complimentary rounds with purchase, but none else anywhere

Thought about getting a 10/22, but decided to build a AR-22 instead.

Still, looks like a good project.

All of those mods weren't very expensive and made my son's gun MUCH more fun to shoot.

About the only thing I don't like about your proposed list of mods is the Hogue stock.

Admittedly though, I'm a wood person and having had one of the Hogues for a while, they are pretty chincy stocks when you get down to it - not enough support and too spongy for my preferences.

Tactical Solutions aluminum barrel w/ threaded cap.
Power Custom trigger & sear disconnect kit
Wilson Combat titanium firing pin
Wilson Combat extractor
Extended mag release (before the extra long ones came out)
recoil buffer
Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 with a sunshade and flip up caps

Fun rifle to play around with, though I don't get to shoot much these days.

It's a good looking rifle, with the price of 10/22 accessories if I don't like it I can always buy a different one.

Nealan,

I think it's a Boyd's. My girlfriend at the time bought it for me for a Christmas present, so I'm not 100% sure.

The fit was excellent right out of the box, but for a project one weekend a long time ago I opened up the channel and basically free floated it.

I say basically because the 10/22, at least with a heavy barrel (had a Butler Creek .920 steel bull barrel on it at the time) is not really designed for a free float. I ended up putting a shim at the front of the stock to support the barrel (used some nylon so heat/cold/moisture would not affect barrel camber).

Well finally ordered my parts for the 10/22 and after a few minutes this is the finished project.

so far i love everything on it, all I have to do now is decide on what scope i am going to put on it.

Nice set up. How much did that end up setting you back if you don't mind me askin?

Also, thoughts on the take down? Been thinking about picking up a 10/22 of late.

The takedown is a cool little rifle. Bag it comes with is pretty decent. Get some bx-25 mags for it

Got the rifle for 197 and ended up paying 225 for all the aftermarket parts.

I like the idea of the takedown 10/22 but the have yet to come out with extras for the takedown. Ie no after market stock"that I know of " or barrels. Other than that as a small compact rifle something for camping where size and weight is an issue I would think not ideal.

Once I finish my AR build I'll be moving straight into a 10/22 build from scratch. Can't wait!

22s are addictive! Three 597s and a AR22 built up from scratch.

I love my Ruger 10/22.

I won it a last years NRA banquet. I only added a Nikon 4x Prostaff scope to it though. It is a limited edition "Cattle Drive" model with a laser engraved stock and a King Ranch butt plate.

Never seen a rifle that preferred a hot bore, but this one does. Groups get tighter after the first shot.
