Why do their onion rings suck so bad? Everything else on the menu is epic. I just don't understand.

I like their onion rings. What's the complaint?

The breading is too thick and doesn't stick to the onion worth a damn.

They're ok for frozen kind. Gourmet hand battered ones kill them, but I've had much worse frozen ones.

If you have to ask why then you have never had a good one.

Too much batter. I agree. They may as well serve tots.

For fast food onion rings, nothing beats Sonic IMO.

Stick with french fries at Whataburger.

There aren't really any fast food type restaurants that have a truly exceptional onion ring. I just don't think it's an easy prep item to get them fast and top quality like your mom would make them.

Tip Top, PoPo's, and Jim's have great rings in SA.

Tip Top has the BEST fried oysters

Johnnies in Oklahoma has some of the best onion rings I've ever had. Went up to visit family and ate there on the way. Good burgers too.

+1. Its funny how obsessed some people are with Whataburger and pretend that it's the mecca of restaurants. It's merely a fast food joint that serves decent food. Nothing less, nothing more. Its either prepared before you arrive or done in 2-3 minutes and is compromised of frozen items. You can go to almost any hole-in-the-wall bar/grill and find a burger, fries, onion rings, and chicken sandwiches that are much better in quality. Heck, even Texas Burger has burgers that trump Whataburger.

meh, I like em. But I'm easy to please.

Oh, and I like Sams onion rings in Fairfield, TX.

I'm not a big fan of the burgers from Whataburger. I'll get a patty melt or A1 from time to time, but I live near PO's Burgers in Cypress. Hard to really want another burger when you've had any of theirs.

Whataburger's fries, chicken strips, and onion rings are all mediocre fast food quality stuff. Nothing special.

PO's in cypress. I remember when they were on the narrow corner of Telge and Huffmeister across from the church. There's a gas station there now. When I was a kid, they cut the building into sections and moved it to its current location. We went there sometimes in highschool.

Also, Whataburger is good becuase they don't skimp on the toppings, they have lots of fresh toppings choices, and they competently make it to order, plus butter toasted buns...

Why is Whataburger such a popular topic here?

They have the best ketchup

Nothing beat the old onion ring "loaf" at Luther's BBQ. Put that thing in the middle of the table and everyone eats off of it.

I wouldn't call it the "Mecca of all restaurants" and I don't think many on here would either. I do however think it is the best FAST-Food restaurant we've got. So the "Mecca of fast-food restaurants" would be understandable.

IMO of course

Whataburger > chickfila > Burger King, McDonald's, jack in the box, etc.

I love me a Whopper from time to time. Just an extremely guilty pleasure.

I and I don't think anyone on here is confusing Whataburger for gourmet food, but for fast food, it is good.
