With all of the free range exotics we have moving around this state, I have never seen an illustrated map showing species range. I am not really sure how you would do this other than creating a google map and plotting it with known locations.

For example, I think that aoudad's are flourishing in the hill country and have drastically expanded their range. But what is that range? I am also curious about localized populations of whatever other non-indigenous species are out there.

I know the hill country holds the vast majority of these exotics but I also know that they aren't limited to this area.

I think it would be cool to have a resource to look at and see if you are located a free range population of animals or if you are looking for a place, what area has these animals.

I still haven't wrapped my mind around how it would best be implemented but just thought I would throw this out there to the OB and see what everyone's thoughts were.

It's a neat idea and I am sure you could roughly develop a range map based on what is already known, but it would be very tough if not impossible to try to drill down to individual properties to be a buying tool.

It also could get complex quickly depending on how you display the data with all the exotics: hogs, black buck, axis, audad, fallow, nilgai, elk, etc

The hard part would be determining what is a viable population or just a few rouge animals. Plus what do you do with areas that are high fenced with exotics when the surrounding area has none.

If you opened this up to the public you would get tons of reports from throughout the state of mixed credibility. I can't even imagine what the black panther and bigfoot range map would look like!

I think you would be better off looking in a known exotic region: kerville, junction, real county, etc and then talking to the former land owner and neighbors before you buy a property.
