Thoughts on these folks?

A friend wants to get a group together and go there to kill some hogs. I'm reluctant because they charge $1/lb for any hogs you kill on top of charging $100/day for each hunter.

I'm not sure if this is standard operating procedure for hog outfitters.

Don't know the owner's name.

Only in the exploratory stage so haven't contacted anybody.

No way would I pay 1$/lb to shoot hogs in addition to the daily hunt fee.

Hunt fee + $1/Lb?' That's asssenine. There are other places to go.

Any recommendations? Would prefer lodging on-site and ~1.5hrs from Houston.

This is just a guess, but if he's charging by the pound it sounds to me like it's because he's buying them by the pound and turning them loose.

He pays .25-.50 cents a pound and is charging you a dollar. Seen that happen before. It's technically illegal now but it still happens.

Is it illegal for him to buy hogs and then release them in his high fence area?

Sounds pretty pricey to me.

$100 for an unrecovered wounded animal?

Is that normal?

RealTalk, I was actually interested in this too myself. I actually was looking into just going and hunting on some public land. If you check out TPWD, you can find some info on what public land is available in your area and what game they allow to be hunted.

If anyone's got land they need clearing of hogs, have gun will travel.

I'm actually looking for hunt and stay places since it'll be a "boys night out and get drunk" deal.

I can hunt hogs at my deer lease but there's no lodging there.

I've scratched off Razorback Ranch off the list since I think charging $1/lb for any hogs you kill is BS.

After a bit of googling, I came across these guys. http://www.4pinesranch.net/index.html

They're out of Mexia, which is a little bit farther than 1.5hrs from Houston, but the price doesn't seem all that unreasonable. It says no limit on hogs, but it doesn't mention if they charge a per pound fee for any of them. Might be worth a call to find out more info.

It's been a few years since I've been to that side of Houston County, but I just don't remember hogs being bad enough to have guided hunts there. So the released hogs sounds like that's probably the case, no laws behind the pine curtain.

Lol. No thanks. You could probably go door to door and find someone who will let you kill hogs for free. Or even pay you.

hey guys - I actually know the Razor Back ranch fellas. I'll give you a bit of a rundown.

GOOD: They have awesome cabins with Direct TV, DVD players, running water, and bunk beds. Also have a separate cabin with poker table and pool table with big screen TV... awesome party location.

BAD: The owner is as rough as it gets... he's very snide and can be a total dick. He's the kind that will ***** at you for splitting up your final payment between 3 credit cards... because you're causing him to take that 2% hit (or whatever it is).

OTHER: The hunts take place in a stocked 150 acre hog pen. There are well over 200 hogs and plenty to shoot. Hogs are bought and released.

Google Keechi Creek Outfitters in Centerville, Texas. Mike Barnett owner/outfitter is a good Ag with accomodations and reasonable prices.
