I'm a big fan of ethnically appropriate names for dogs. So Pointers get English names, Shorthairs get German names, Vizslas get Hungarian names, etc.

I've got a GSP named Gertrude (Trudy). If I get another I'll get a male named Klaus (mainly because I want to yell at him off the porch in a German accent).

Regardless of what you name them around the house/pens, they'll have MUCH more colorful names in the field.
Try to keep it to one syllable names that don't rhyme with whoa.

Are you looking for official names for the registration or simple names that you would call the dog in everyday life?

For call names I am a big fan of short human names such as Doug, Jim, Joe, Hank, etc.

Female: Tess, Liz, Dee, Sue, Jess, Zee, Beda, Ali, Roxy, Brooke, Paige, Maggie, Darla, Brandy, Lucy, Dolly, Jenny, Sam, Trixie, Chic, Beca.

A guy I know had a great black lab named "Dano"...his release command to retrieve was "Book'em Dano".

Definetly go with "Bryan" ha!!

Wife has OK'd me getting a Boykin spaniel but it will be several months until the kennel (Texas Trace) has another litter of pups from what they tell me. I'm getting a male and his name will be Finn.

The rib will be getting a chocolate lab for her birthday- female named Maggie.

I had a liver and white Brittany. The liver was the closest thing to maroon. Of course, her name was:

The things to consider when naming a dog are as follows:
1) You want it to be short and concise so that it is easily heard in the wind, generally one syllable.
2) If you can't find one of these a two syllable name that ends in a vowel is easier to yell over distance
3) You don't a name that sounds like any of his commands such as "Bo" could sound like "whoa"

Fetch...then, you're calling the dog and telling him what to do...his name becomes synonymous with his job, which is getting you your bird!

I agree. Along those lines, and being even more anal, I like names that start with a hard consonant.

I have a Liver and White GSP and her name is Maverick, Mav for short.
