Has anyone hunted the south unit? I may try to squeeze in a few last minute/late season hunts there.

My son (8yrs) was drawn for an antlerless hunt here next weekend. I hear there are no existing stands. Is anyone familiar with this WMA? I'm trying to figure out what kind of blind we should use/construct in order to get him the most solid rest possible.

Give the WMA office a call, they should be more than happy to help you out with whatever info they have on stands/gear.

Give them a call, like rather said, they are usually more than willing to talk. If it is by compartment, ask before going out if they have any recommendations on where to set up in the compartment.

Areas I like, and it's been a while.
1. The isolated oxbow about as far north as you can get.
2. The opening to the southeast of there.
3. Any of the open areas on the south end where you can get on a 90 angle line.

Ask for compartment 1,2 or 9. 1 and 2 are close to the check station # 9 is way back and will take you 30-45 min to get around to. They all have cleared right of ways that deer cross and feed in. Walk the area and find some well used trails. Build a ground blind out of brush and palmetto fronds. Get in it and stay. Between my son and myself I bet we have taken 30 deer out of there.

Get a good quality pop up and get the wind right. Works well for kids.
