The electronic signs are routinely used to direct traffic or tell visitors where to exit freeways for various events, including rodeos, sporting events and gun shows.

Stuart Corder, director of transportation operations for the Texas Department of Transportation in Houston, tells the Houston Chronicle that officials suspended the signs' use for gun shows shortly after receiving complaints following a gun show that was held a day after the Dec. 14 shooting in which a gunman killed 26 people, including 20 children.

I agree with Roger, this is no big deal.

In all honesty I figured those signs were used for Gun Shows just the same as they are for the Circus, the Super Bowl, the I don't care it's a crummy divison 2 dot com bowl, drag races, baseball, etc.

It's not so much to give direction as improve overall traffic flow. People that don't care about an event and don't follow it won't know it's happening. They wonder why traffic is bad. People that are coming in for an event are likely driving an area they're not intimately familiar with. Telling out of towners what exits to use for convention center or sports arena access doesn't seem like a big deal. Suddenly saying, oops that's for a gun show seems ridiculous. The signs are there to inform motorists.

Somebody just needs to pay them a kick-back and the directions get posted. That's the way it works.

Does Houston still have the same idiot DA who grandstanded and said he wouldn't even honor CHLs?

I wouldn't know a gun show is happening without those electronic signs giving directions to them. I don't go to gun shows anyway.

My few interactions with TxDot have left me with the belief that they hire all the engineers and folks who were at the bottom of their class.

I really appreciated it when they shut down one of the lanes northbound on 35 between Grandview and Alvarado THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING (for no visibly apparent reason). Sure was fun sitting in traffic for 2 miles before it cut down to one lane and then puttering along in the single lane for the next 10, adding another hour onto my trip time. Excellent planning there txdot, nobody travels around holidays!

It is an event just like any other. If they can be used for one event they should be used for all events where their use helps traffic get to where it needs to be.

The people at TXDot are the biggest idiots that walk the earth. In the past year they have "improved" two FM roads in Fort Bend County and installed full medians. FOR SAFETY!! Now you have to dodge countless vehicles making U-turns because the morans at TXDot make the left turn cuts by using the magic 8 ball method. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I HATE TXDOT!!!!!!
