I have not been able to hunt much this year due to work, but when I went over Thanksgiving i found my blinds were in worse shape than I thought. I am thinking about starting over with them at the end if the season.

If you were to build the ultimate deer blind, what would you put in it?

Strippers.

Seriously though a good shooting rest. One like the 50cal mounts like in a chopper.

Strippers, kegerator, ac and heating are all must haves.

On a more serious note, I would start with size. I have some 4x4s that are great but after upgrading to a 4x6 at one of my spots I will never buy or build anything else. Even if you are by yourself, the convenience of being bike to throw all of your gear across the floor without kicking it every time you move and spooking deer, in addition the legroom that enables cozy naps has me absolutely sold.

One thing I did to my 4x6 that I would highly recommend to anyone, is adding shelves. I put mine directly in front of the main window and another one mounted about 6inches below on the side of the blind. Why? Because when I shoot I have a rest for the gun in the front and a rest for my arm on the side. Do I need it? No. But I tell you, it is some of the easiest shooting you will do. It's like shooting at the freaking range.

One thing I would love to do wild be to rig up the blind with a couple of car batteries and the necessary solar charging equipment to run electrical in my blind. You could run fans, heaters, or whatever else electrical in your blind that you can imagine.

Cost has prohibited me from doing so. Well, that and I am not sure how I would really rig that up successfully.

My brother did this. He's the most fair weather hunter you've ever met. Won't hunt in the morning, and won't hunt unless he has a heater, so it's usually sitting in the truck not seeing anything. He built a really nice trailer mounted stand with bench seating and rigged it to be equipped with 12 volts and was going to put a solar panel recharger on. Not sure how if he's used it this year due to work.

Carpet on the walls to help muffle sound and a good 2x6 shelf all around

Piece of PVC that exits the blind to allow for Hydraulic pressure release so you don't have to expose your short comings on those cold mornings when a norther is blowing in.

That's a hell of an idea there Earl, also agree with the shelves, hooks and carpet. One of the guys I hunt with was toying with the idea of a solar powered exhaust fan on the roof to help circulate air.

The idea if heaters and electricity just doesn't seem right.

Now not having to play pee in the bottle does have an appeal.

Electricity and heaters just doesn't sound right to me either. Deer hunting is supposed to be cold. It's not supposed to be done in a lazy-boy with heated blanket over you.

We have property in Sanderson and my Uncle hunts from inside the cabin with the wood burning stove going. His feeders are 150-200 yards away down in the canyon, 1 out the front door and the other out the back window. Ear protection is a MUST when shooting as I found out the hard way one time, shooting a .270 indoors.....WTF was I thinking.

I am not fortunate enough to hunt nearly as much as most on here.

What I have found in the limited hunting I've done, however, is that the nicer the blind, the more apt I am to take a nap and miss the action. Crappier blind that lets cold air blow through or has that little squeak whenever you move forces me to be more on my game.

That being said, I've been in a couple of nice blinds:

Carpet is a solid idea

A good chair, or having some penetrating oil or teflon spray in the blind during the season that doesn't stink to high heaven you can lube up moving parts on the chair with really helps

EagleFordEarl has probably the best idea, though I would take it farther and tell you to put a French Drain system in and run your pipe/hose all the way to the ground and then a foot or two below. Bed it in gravel for percolation, then cover back up.

A solid shooting rest - 2x6 or even 2x8 shelf at each shooting window. Going overboard on support here is not a bad thing. A solid rest eliminates one possible variable. I've seen a couple of guys that keep sandbags in the blind on their shooting rests during the season. Solid idea.

Easy access/egress. Few things are more of a pain than a door that is 6" too short or narrow and you are trying to get everything wormed in through the too small door in the dark when standing on top of a ladder all while trying to keep the sound down as much as possible. Don't skimp on access. Plan on being a fatty one day.

Last blind I hunted in had A/C, Dish Network, Flat screen, poker table, refrigerator, and was in the process of having a bbq grill installed on the front porch.

Didn't see any deer but we had a hell of a party watching the SEC championship game!

Funnel for peeing in, hooked to a plastic tube that runs outside into the ground. Best thing I've seen in a deer stand.

And shelves. Most deer stands have no shelves at all and it irks me.

And a designated place to lean a gun(s).

Solar panel, fans, dish network, 23" flat screen, 4 gallon water bladder w/valves, Keurig, heater, fold out table top, shelving, camp stove, funnel pisser drained into hole filled with charcoal, all in a 8x4 insulated blind. Would provide pictures but I don't know how? I forgot to mention the led lighting and the weather station. If in the Georgetown area I would be glad to show u.

Carpet is the biggest thing to me. Really helps with the noise. The idea of a piss funnel running into the ground is really good. I could really use that. Currently use Gatorade bottles.

Thanks for the ideas guys. The funnel piped to a French drain in the ground is a good idea. I'm definitely going to build larger blinds than I have currently.

BBQ thanks for the offer but I am not near Georgetown.

Keep the ideas coming

+1 on funnel with a garden hose attached, much better than bottles or pissing out a window/door.

There are times when a portable toilet would have been REAL nice to have available...

Add on a good double dose of Demon WP every year on the legs, bottom, interior floor, and the top on the inside. And down the pee tube y'all are mentioning.

Our blinds get infested with scorpions every off season. They get in every crack and crevase imaginable. The Demon WP applied two weeks prior to opening day keeps the scorpions, spiders, and wasps in and around them DOA for the season.

Would hate for any of y'all with the fancy piss tube to get...a surprise.

BBQ, you aren't hunting that gravel pit place are you? If so, I'm extremely freaking jealous.

What's the deer quality like out there?

Ad, we have been hunting the 2000 acres surrounding that quarry for over 10 yrs. deer quality is above average for that area. But we have year around feeding and a selective harvest program. We are thinking our honey hole is nearing an unfortunate end due to surrounding construction.

I'd say a porch and a hammock. I haven't been deer hunting in a long time, but what sounds best to me out of the whole deal is getting out to a quiet place where I could have some quiet and a nap.
