Looking to put a bipod on my Rock River Arms AR, but not sure how to do it. I am pretty new to the AR game. Can someone point me in the right direction of an adaptor, either on the R-4 handguard, or on the bayonet lug. Any suggestions?

Use the mag as a monopod and spend the money you saved on ammo.

Cheap and they work fine.

I use one of these with a Harris bi-pod I have that I also use on my Weatherby.

Would I be better off just buying a free floating rail and replacing the handguard?

So you don't have a rail handgaurd. There are several options to solve this problem.

I was going to suggest going a route that would let you utilize your current bipod.

Since you dont have a current bipod, your options are all over the place: replace handguard, replace gasblock, barrel clamp bipod, etc.

You'll just have to figure out what you want and how much you want to spend.

If you're not looking to spend a paycheck on the setup I'd put a plastic rail piece on your handguard and an adapter/ bipod on that.

If you have a paycheck to spend on it (or if, and this is likely, you're paychecks are WAY bigger than mine) I'd free float that mother with a new rail and increase your options.

Can you show me a plastic rail piece on cheaperthandirt.com or somewhere else I could get it?

So basically you take your handguard off, then bolt the rail to the bottom section of the handguard, and put it back on?

Putting a bipod on a carbine is pointless. Use the mag.

With a longer rail system or FF foreend (some FF's allow you t mount a stud directly to them), you can either use the Harris system that mounts to a sling stud (there are Pic rail adapaters that have the sling stud), or one of the few options that mount directly to the rail.

If you go with a Harris, get the swiveling 6"-9" that has leg notches.

I disagree that a bipod is useless on a carbine but will concede its less useful than on other setups. If you like a bipod, set it up that way.

I've got a Harris that attaches to a sling stud. It simply clips to the stud and then has a tension screw that pulls the bipod up snug to the stock. Bipod goes on and off in seconds so I can use it on all my rifles at the range when sighting in, etc. I got the Harris swivel stud adapter kit that attaches to the AR. It's a simple inexpensive piece that attaches from the inside of the guard.

I guess I don't understand how the swivel stud works. Any swivel stud you purchase will work? And then the bipod attaches to that how?

Kinda hard to explain but, Most of the bipods will have two little pegs on arms that can be tightened and the pegs will sit on either side of the swivel stud and fit in the hole (that's what she said) and tighten down. Again it's hard to explain but most bipods will have it marked on the package if they fit on a swivel point, an it should fit on all swivels. That's the best I can help. I had one on my stag for awhile and it worked really well.

Also to add for what they are suggesting, if you get a rail on the bottom, you will still need a swivel point adapter for the rail. It's a little piece that only costs $20 or so (at least from champions) and then the bipod attaches to that.
