Alright guys and gals, I've been living in cs for close to a year and a half and the only public fishing I know of is at Gibbons creek and lake Bryan. Id love to find some Creeks or rivers that are free open access, anybody willing to help me out here?

For your troubles:

Lake Somerville is only about 30 minutes to the west and it has a ton of public parks on it shorelines. The spillway is good fishing if they are releasing water.

There is the Little Brazss to the west of BCS on 60 a few miles. It isn't that accessible, but it is fishable.

South of Campus west of Navasota on 105, you cross both the Navasota and Brazos river, and both are accesssible next to the bridges on the highway easements pretty easily. There's some decent fishing spots near the bridges.

The smaller creeks will have sunfish and small bass, so if you use ultralight fishing tackle, they can be fun.

Pond in front of CS police station (Cy Miller), Central Park (should be about trout time in the smaller pond), pond behind Bryan Target, Carter Creek (various highway right of ways, with 6 feeder between Briarcrest and University and Greens Prairie being main 2), Little Brazos at 21 (small spotted bass when flowing clear), Brazos at 21/60, Somerville/Gibbons, Conroe/bastrop/Fayetteville being worth drives if you have a boat/kayak.

the trick wiht the cs pd pond....it's earthworms or nothing for bream and crappie, chicken liver or nothing for catfish.

I've caught literally HUNDREDS of bream in a trip, and watched them turn there nose up at anything but earthworm. there's also some big crappie, and they will to. there's also several 5-8# catfish in there.

Spend a weekend and go fish the surf in matagorda. Get a buddy a tent and a 4WD and make a memory

Look at Hilltop Lakes in Normangee. You can rent a row boat and pay a small fee to fish. There are some huge bass in there, but watch for the gators.

During the spring, hit up the creeks that feed into Lake Somerville during the white bass spawn. These include Yegua Creek, Nails Creek, and Birch creek. It costs a couple bucks, but it offers some excellent fishing when the spawn is on. You can also fish the same creeks year round and catch other species (if the lake is high enough).
