How long do you want to ignore this user?
I purchased two Surefire flash hiders, one for a 5.56 and another for a .300 blk out. I have been stressing out about what type of end caps to put on these rifles since I want to get a suppressor. One of the things that has been tripping me up is I like the A2 birdcage flash hider, and don't care for muzzlebreaks. I had read that 3 prong flash hiders have a ring to them, and that also have me pause. Finally tried them out today.

.300 blk out didn't have a ring as near as I could tell with Remington 115 gr cheapos. The 5.56 with lake city 55 grain did have a ring to it that I could hear through my ear plugs.

Still not sure which is less annoying a break or the tuning fork. Just in case you guys were considering these.

I think you are focusing on the wrong thing here. The intent is to suppress the rifles. The ringing FH is much less annoying than the unsuppressed report of the rifle.

Get the 7.62 can and you can use it on both rifles.

The 7.62 can is the plan once they are available. I am hoping they will be available for order by the end of the year.

Just out of curiosity, how does a 7.62 can fit a 5.56 and .300 rifle?

It's larger in diameter and the bullet passes right through. Most of the guys I know running cans down here have them large enough to be threaded on the largest caliber they might use it on instead of having a can for each different gun.

So is a 7.62 suppressor just as good at suppressing a 5.56 AR as a 5.56 can would be? Or is there a slight reduction in performance?

You learn something new everyday, pretty neat.

Not sure on the specifics but to the untrained observer who is just having a blast shooting other people's suppressed toys, I don't notice much of a difference between swaps. I'm sure one of the folks who is more well versed in this will come and smite me for my inability to discern a 10Db drop between them, but I really can't tell.

In terms of performance in smaller calibers, what I have seen by attending silencer demos is that you don't get a significant reduction in performance in term of noise reduction. The downside is in having a can that is larger than a typical 5.56 can. Also you need to use QD mounts or have your barrel threaded in a non typical pattern for that caliber.

You lose some but not much. It's a bit more of a crack when the round goes off. But if you are shooting subsonic .300 ACC rounds out of it you will only hear the action cycle and the round hit the target.

Trust me, the 3 prong fh is WAY less obnoxious than a surefire brake. Read somewhere that if one of the tines is ground down to a lesser length, the tuning fork phenomena goes away. Silencerco did this with their SAKER can mount.
