We have an electronic feeder on land in Bastrop county, but no deer are coming to it. Any advice? Is there too much natural food around to get them to come to the corn?

Possibly. Contrary to popular belief, feeders are not a guarantee of seeing/shooting deer.

It's raining acorns all around me. Go sit in an oak tree.

Learn to hunt? That's easy. We just put the feeder under a big oak tree right next to a food plot.

All kidding aside, if there's plenty of other food options, they probably won't start hammering the feeder until it gets colder, if at all.

Get out of the normal "sit in the blind and wait for the feeder to go off" routine.

Put in some legwork and go scout.

Are you a part of the group that is trying to get a special anvil season?

1)Walk around and find trails.
2)Set cams on trails and find out which one's they use regularly.
3)Set stands on those trails and hand corn in shooting lanes to get them to stop long enough for a good shot.

tough crowd around here! how long has the feeder been throwing corn? it takes the deer a little while to find it and start coming. the only thing they really like more than corn would be acorns so when trees are dropping youll see less at the feeders

Feeders are usually less effective around oak trees, plain and simple. I'd suggest walking around trails or other high activity areas near your feeder and sprinkle a little corn out.

Yep, with the recent rains nothing beats some foot time, to determine where the deer are moving. Fortunately have few hogs where we hunt, so not having to constantly determine what type of tracks we're seeing.

Nicely done

You could start putting some deer scent products down around the feeder. That might get them to come check it out and keep coming back.

But as already suggested, the most fool-proof way is to actually do the scouting that others have suggested. I haven't been a deer hunter for a long time, but one thing I've learned quickly is that deer won't move the same way or feed the same way from year to year. One year we have them real heavy on one part of our property, the next year they're nowhere to be found.

This thread has inspired me. I have applied for a patent for a device that will let the consumer control when a tree can drop its acorns. Kinda like a feeder motor.

I've spent the last couple of days raking and picking up all the acorns in my yard. They're small so they should sling out of most feeders. I'll sell them for double what corn is going for. Since the deer aren't coming to corn and prefer the acorns I consider this a bargain. At least now you can claim the deer are coming to your feeder.

Damn sunchaser, you got me all figured out.

Here's a picture of me testing the prototype, but I've still got a few kinks to work out.

Still not certain how that ended with this:

We don't have much land. This is just 40 acres, so I don't have options to go hunt.

There is a 40X50 pen around the feeder. We have no hogs, but the cows will destroy the feeder if we don't have a pen.

I kind of figured that there were too many fresh acorns around. Any ideas on something else to bring them to my feeder? Apples? Someone said put some powdered grape koolaid in the corn.
