Anchoring a deer stand?

How do you guys tie them down? We've always used t posts or any other metal rods we had laying around and hand tight slick wire.

Is that sufficient? My new stand is only 4' off the ground but the legs go straight down, no cant to them at all.

All ideas are welcome. Tia!

Sink a 3' eye hook in concrete in the center of the blind and tie to it with cables.

I always use an auger kit from the bottom of the base to the ground and 4 t-posts to secure each leg.

I was going to ask about tieing down to the center instead of wires out from the corners. There are cattle on this place and I just know they are going to go rubbing on the wires and break them.

We hunt in goldthwaite and I won't have time (or wear with all) to dig a pier and pour a sack of concrete. I'd be worried about a rod or t post pulling out though.

Eye hook or one of those dog tie-out stakes screwed into the ground and a ratchet strap. I prefer the tie out if you have good soil as it is less permanent. I screw it right under the seat on tripods, and the ratchet really helps to snug the tripod to the ground.

My ex-BIL had a 10 ft blind anchored underneath with a huge post about 8" diameter and about 4 to 5 feet long.

Each year that post worked its way further out of the ground. For many years it hung there on four very loose wires. This blind had quite a bit of angle to the columns so it pretty much stood on its own.

Makes me chuckle...he was not an Aggie engineer!

Big ass rocks, but my dad has a front end loader and big ass rocks everywhere so it might not work for everyone.

The Auger works wonders, have had a deer stand in West Texas stay up for 8 years now.

We use an Auger system as well. It really holds up well to high winds from what we've seen.

I ran eye bolts thru the 4x4 legs of my blind, drove half T-posts next to them and wired them up with a good wrap and twist. Sturdy.

We have several blind towers that are 20+ feet tall. We typically tie them off to the base of large trees using cable and turnbuckles. If trees are not available, we use mobile home anchors. We tie ours down for stability and to keep them from blowing over. Most of our blinds have been up for over 10 years.

putting one anchor in the center under the blind has never worked for us but it may work on a 4' tower.

i just set the stand legs in a 5 gal bucket of concrete. Its enough weight to keep it in place from tilting over and if you ever move it just dig the buckets out. (our place has deep sandy soils so conventional anchors do not work well)

Please DO NOT use T post to anchor either blinds or feeders!!!! PLEASE!!!!
A couple of years ago a young man from Houston was killed while filling a feeder. He fell and impaled himself on a T post. Stayed there for several hours until his family found him because he had not come in. Very Very sad! Too many other cheap and good ways to anchor things!!
THANKS!!

That was a freak accident. That's like saying stop shooting Remington 700s bc my uncle's friend's toothless stepsister shot her dog by accident. Please...

Agreed... probably was standing on a milk crate on top of a wooden ladder when he fell.

T-post and wire, auger, but my favorite is to form a large pad under the blind with a 1/2" rebar eye then fill with concrete. Wire the corners to the eye and you're solid.

Second on the t-posts on each leg. Also the same with rebar, etc. Bad news. I've even seen problems where people drove pointed 2x4's in that created a nasty wedge to get hung up on if someone slipped.

We started sinking lag-eye bolts at the tops of the legs (4x4's). Then set an eyed auger anchor (not dog anchor) under the center of the blind. We then ran a cable from one lag-eye bolt on leg thru the anchor eye to the opposite corner lag-eye clamping with cable clamps and using a turnbuckle. Same for the other two legs. Tighten turnbuckle(s) and done. Been through some pretty high winds with no issues. However, the blind legs will settle some over time requiring tightening of the turnbuckles over the years.

thanks for the input guys.

I went to the hardware store and got 4 augered posts with eyes on top. Hopefully they work. I'm worried about the soil, or more specifically the huge rocks in the soil, but we'll try to make it work. I'm taking some T posts along too just in case.
