Grew up fishing the lower Laguna Madre, but don't know the water in Rockport. Anybody have a guide they can recommend (trout and reds)? One of the guys that is going on the trip called a guide who quoted him $650 for four people (7 am to 2 pm). Does that sound right?

This guy will take you places no other guide will and works HARD to get you on fish. It will definitely be a unique experience.

There is one big caveat. Some people would hate fishing with him (my dad). He is super OCD and you have to fish HIS way. He is very particular and can rub people the wrong way... I find it more entertaining than frustrating.

This guy is the closest thing to the turtleman I have ever met in real life.

But this guy will fish as much as you want with him... we fished all day till about 4 took a break and went back out at 6. I think his rate was 525. Not sure if he will put more than 4 people on his boat.

Cliffnotes:
He works hard and can put you on redfish.
He is a nut and you may hate fishing with him.

I hired this guy for my mom's birthday and my family had a blast. We limited out on black drum and caught a handful of reds. I liked how he tried to educate us and give us tips. He's not a guide that will hook the fish and then let you reel it in. He really likes to help you learn.
Would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Oh...Chad is not very OCD. He's really laid back. If you want to learn he's more than willing, but he wants you to have a great time more than anything else.

Once you get to 4 people it's going to be a minimum of $550 for eight hours for most guides.

Thanks guys, I'll start calling these guys. I had some friends that hired a guide on South Padre last weekend that only put them on two trout and charged them $550.00. The salinity levels in South Padre and Mansfield are very high right now, so i've heard fishing in the bay has been tough. He felt bad though and at least gave them a bunch of fillets out of his freezer.

This is un-related, but they hired him the next day too to go offshore, and he put them on 17 blackfin tuna and two Ling. $1,3000.00 for the trip.

I use Bobby about ~5 times a year and have never been skunked. He always finds fish. I think his rates are $500 for 2 people and $600 for 4.

I have to second Bobby Ward. I have been with him several times, great guide and you will catch fish.
