I am in need of antique tractor values. I have a list of tractors in the family that have been restored or are in working condition and want to get a value for them. There are 12-15 of them.

Here is a short list...

1940 JD/IL - Show condition
1959 International 350 - good condition
1949 Allis Chalmers + equipment - Show condition
1928 Mccormick Deering 20 - Reg - Show condition
1939 John Deere H - show condition
1934 Farmall + cultivator - show condition

I have the whole list in handwritten form, but that is a snippet of what we're working with. Many will be passed down, but others will be sold if no one is interested in them so i told my in laws Id help get values.

Where does one go for this?

I'm on a board that has antique engines and tractors do you want me to post this list there for you? Granted, many people won't discuss price and it is a fairly close guarded topic so you may not get many reponses anyways.

Is the first one a Deere LI? That would be a model L Industrial, painted yellow and fairly rare.

Sorry, don't have any great ideas for you. Your best bet may be to contact the local antique tractor clubs and let several guys from those take a look.

On a side note, we're facing a lot of the same problems. Lost Dad at Christmas, and he has about 20 antique tractors we need to take care of.

Not to pimp my own thread too much, but there is a thread of old tractors on the Automotive Board that I started. Shows some of Dad's tractors.

Also has replies from some folks who collect, so maybe you could PM them for help.

There is a antique tractor show in Temple. There will be several buyers for the tractors there. You could ask several of the owners of what you have and get some value perspective.

If you have pictures you could set up a booth with prices on each photo, or bring them.

There may be some people in the organization to help you. Here is some ifo.

Look up ytmag.com
There is a good amount of information on there. Also google machinery Pete. He has a show on rfdtv and discusses values. There is a book called The Rust Book that gives values to antique tractors

I've been shopping craigslist for antique tractors for a couple of years now, and I can tell you a couple of observations. First, you need to have more specifics, like what model Allis and Farmall is that you have there. Second, you may get a little more for fully restored tractors, but many tractor guys want projects they can do themselves. Finally, like all things, they're worth what someone will pay for them, so you can get a lot more for one if you find the right buyer.

Shop around CL, tractordata.com, and a couple of other places to get some ideas. There's lots of esoteric options (hydraulic outlets, # of gears, wide/narrow front, rear hitch type, etc.) on these old tractors that true collectors will have more input. Some of the features will be more valuable to collectors, but kinda worthless for someone looking to use the tractor for work.

may require a little more clarification too.

The '20' and 'reg' could indicate it is a 'Regular', that is often confused with it's successor, the F-20. Or it could be a '10-20' that was a totally different, 'standard', tractor. A 1928 production date could be either one. Knowing if it is a row crop (Regular/F20), or non-adjustable tread 'standard' (10-20), would help.

I'm going to get long winded, so please forgive me, but I do have a thought I'd share about this because I've helped people disperse collections before and this was is a useful tactic. Every model had it's most common configuration and then smaller subsets of special factory-equipped configurations that make them special. Factory wide fronts, special wheel equipment, industrial models, vegetable models, it goes on. (notice I said factory equipped - hacking the hood to weld an LP tank on a 420 JD high crop does not make it the elusive factory LP high crop model). If you can identify some rare tractors in your collection that are going to get someone's blood pumping.... attach a couple more common tractors to it and make the person take 2 maybe 3. Trust me, they'll do it. More than once I've bought or sold John Deere As or Bs, that were common as pig sh*t, to get to a Model G. This will help keep you from getting 'stuck' with a tractor that every tire kicker will wear you out about because he has a list of 12 of them from craigslist he can go look at in one afternoon. A serious collector won't bat an eye because he knows where he can move the tractor. Just something that has helped me.

Also: serial numbers. Tractor collectors love serial numbers. Get your list and have someone get all the serial numbers. Did I mention how much tractor collectors love serial numbers?

Just know that 'show quality' is subjective. There is a lot of difference in repainted and restored; don't get worked up if you're opinion of show quality isn't someone else's.

Hope some of that helps.

My dad bought a '61 International 300 Utility for $1500. Needed the seat recovered and rubber was ok. Started with ease, idles strong and no oil or hydraulic leaks.

I don't have all of those details. Im helping out a family member and the tractors are not in texas. When I say 'show quality' I mean they were completely restored, and, well, taken to tractor shows for competition or whatever. That's as much as I know about what 'show' means. That was to distinguish them from 'good' which meant they were functional, complete and probably painted...good enough to take to a parade or something. The rest are just in excellent condition, by that I mean, they are functional, but have been restored so that they could be used.

Ill take all this information. I know its going to be like anything collectable and that's what I suspected. Not all of these will be sold. Most will get distributed to direct family members, the rest will be up for sale, if it doesn't sell for the price they want for it, then they will be donated to the tractor museums or tractor club he was a member of as per his request.

Apologies to the OP, I hope he doesn't mind. Just wondering if this working tractor in the picture below, if it were made to look fancy would be worth something.

Good deal Brazos. I didn't mean anything by my comment, it's just that most people hold tractor restorations to a much lower standard than automotive ones. I'm sure you can appreciate what I'm talking about. Good luck with your business there.

Shifty... man don't sell BobbyLee's tractor!
