Is there that much of a variance among BCG's and charging handles? Does it really boil down to weight?
There is a lot of variance, and it's certainly more than just weight. One of the main reasons I recommended BCM is they have everything people want in one. The gas key on top is properly staked (some companies won't do this) so you don't have to worry about it coming apart while firing, and they high pressure test and magnetic particle test the BCG for cracks and weak points meaning if you get a really hot round in your gun it won't damage your BCG because it had a weak point or something. Lastly, BCM makes theirs out of the right material (carpenter 158 or something like that) which is according to the technical data package that is used as a guideline for making guns that our troops receive. There is a few other reasons that others can add but those are the main ones that I look for in a BCG. Sorry for going all AR nerd there.
