Is there that much of a variance among BCG's and charging handles? Does it really boil down to weight?

+1 for Bravo Company USA (for both BCG and CH).

There is a lot of variance, and it's certainly more than just weight. One of the main reasons I recommended BCM is they have everything people want in one. The gas key on top is properly staked (some companies won't do this) so you don't have to worry about it coming apart while firing, and they high pressure test and magnetic particle test the BCG for cracks and weak points meaning if you get a really hot round in your gun it won't damage your BCG because it had a weak point or something. Lastly, BCM makes theirs out of the right material (carpenter 158 or something like that) which is according to the technical data package that is used as a guideline for making guns that our troops receive. There is a few other reasons that others can add but those are the main ones that I look for in a BCG. Sorry for going all AR nerd there.

The bravo company stuff looks fantastic. A gunfighter charging handle is on my wish list.

I guess I should have asked for the best bargain websites. I'm thinking about getting a 300 blackout upper and I need to save where I can. If push comes to shove I'll just use the BCG and handle from my AR but I'd prefer to have 2 complete uppers.

Didn't know all that. Thanks.

LG if you are looking for something cheaper, stag arms has a BCG for $115. I've owned two stags and never had a failure from either one so I would recommend them too for a cheaper option. If you're still looking for cheaper then that then I'm out of ideas.....

My current rifle is a lefty stag. I love that thing!

Is a chrome BCG woth the extra money? Is it supposed to wear slower?

In my experience it's not, but from all of the Internet researching ive done its a toss up. The main feature of it is it's easier to clean since the carbon doesn't stick to the chrome as much (which is true the one I have in my stag model 6 is a lot easier to clean than my BCM one) I've heard they are supposed to be hard and more resistant to wear but I haven't seen actual proof in mine. So they are nice but not worth the extra money IMO.

The idea is you'd pick these up for a build right? As opposed to replacing one that's already in the rifle.

Can't imagine needing to swap out the one that came in my M&P.

The BCM gunfighter charging handle is top notch. It's the only really functional upgrade I made to my Colt and now I never want to go back to a stock charging handle.

Yes. This would be for a new upper. My stag has served well too.

Please excuse my ignorance.

So I'm seeing folks upgrading to the Gunfighter charging handle. Is it that much different than the standard ch? What am I missing?

The biggest difference (and only?) is the latch is bigger or much bigger, depending on the model you buy, than the standard ar 15 charging handle making it much easier to charge. I'm a lefty so an ambidextrous handle like the Ranier Arms Raptor is pretty appealing.

If you even happen to see this post: one of the main reasons a lot of people (myself included) like it so much is it allows you to change how you charge the weapon. With your standard CH you have to "rabbit ear it" when you pull it back with two fingers (one on either side of the stem kind of looks like rabbit ears i guess). But if you get the BCM one, the side latch is big enough that you can charge it with just a finger on the left side (assuming you are a right handed shooter). If thats not a good explanation check this link out and they explain it at the bottom.

I think they are well worth the money.

Definitely worth the money. Allows you to easily charge the gun with your left hand without ever removing your shooting hand from it's location. Also a better design so it's more durable. After trying one I'll probably put one on every AR I ever get.

It ask relieves the pressure on the pin holding the latch in but it letting the full force of the charge be exerted on that pin. It hits the back of the handle
