How long do you want to ignore this user?
My nephew (age 6) is coming for a couple days. I'd like to take him to a sure bet fishing spot. Having just moved here I don't have my locations figured out. I don't care what variety or how big. I'd like him to catch something. I'm willing to drive some. Any ideas? Please help.

The pond at WillCo Regional Park is pretty good for bass, catfish, bluegill, etc.

Blue Hole in Georgetown was good before it flooded. Haven't fished it since.

Granger and Georgetown lakes are both within driving distance.

San Gabriel River between Georgetown and Granger.

Brushy Creek Lake is okay but I wouldn't eat the fish.

If you want to drive you can always hit any one of the lakes along the Colorado River (Lady Bird, Austin, Travis, Marble Falls, Inks, Buchanan, etc).

Those are the places I know.

There are two cant miss places near Round Rock to take kids fishing.

Take Brushy Creek Road/Hairy Man Road east from Parmer. Go past Great Oaks. Right before you get to the bridge on Hairy Man Road that crosses Brushy Creek (the creek, not the road) there is a spot to pull off on the left side of the road. A pickup will work best, but a car would probably be ok too. If you use worms you can catch quite a few bluegill, catfish (I caught 4-5 with one one about 8 pounds last time I went), and a few bass. As long as the creek is flowing low you should have several nice rocks to cast from.

The other spot is at the fishing dock on the boardwalk on a pond at the back of River Place subdivision. This is a little further from Round Rock, but there is a spectacular nature trail that starts at the same location and is worth the trip by itself.

Fish at Granger Lake in this order:

Wilson Fox Park (there are a couple of docks to fish from) >>> Friendship Park > Granger WMA

Do a Google map search for Granger Lake and locate these areas. Minnows and Berkley Crappie Niblets FTW.

Went to Wilson Fox Park this morning. The little guy had fun. He caught 10 fish. No keepers but he had a blast anyway. Thank y'all for the recommendations. I will have to check out the others sometime.
