Best taxidermist in Houston area other than Brush Country?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've been using Brush Country consistently for about 20 years, but I have three jobs there now and they can't be bothered to return a phone call. I'm getting tired of being treated like an afterthought and hearing about how they are swamped with elephant mounts, full body lions, etc. In short, I'm willing to consider somebody else if they're just as good at "mundane" things like whitetail, axis, blackbuck, etc.

Any recommendations? I'm not particularly price sensitive.

I visited both Brush Country and B&B Taxidermy last week for a moose and caribou I am having done. I went to B&B Taxidermy first and was greeted by Alizza (hot A&M receptionist chick) and then introduced to Frank. He walked me around their whole facility showing me the ins and outs of their operation, answered any questions I had, and we looked through a photo album for about 10 minutes on options for my mounts. Extremely nice, very customer service oriented, quality work, and reasonble prices. I then went directly over to Brush Country to meet with Rocky. He does some nice work, but I'm not doing business with that guy or his stuck up wife. I would HIGHLY recommend you take a look at B&B Taxidermy. If you go there, please tell them that Ryan sent you.

Also, if you go there, do what '02 couldn't do and deliver on Rule1!! ...at least for the receptionist!

If you don't mind a 45 minute drive south, Azlin Taxidermy in Clute holds several world medals for his work.

I've had a few mounts done by Conroe Taxidermy in The Woodlands. They've done a good job.

Conroe Taxidermy does a lot of SCI stuff, too. In fact, the last time I was in there (having a horn fixed on a whitetail mount that had become loose in the skull, coincidentally done by Brush Country) they were housing an elephant shoulder mount for Dan Duncan while he was finishing up his new trophy room at his ranch. My Dad has used Conroe Taxidermy for many mounts as well. I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

Bass Taxidermy in Texas City does great work. They had some big Canadian trophy elk (400+ class) in there last time I visited.

Conroe Taxidermy does some first class work. I've seen all of the mounts in Mike's house and they are top notch

B&B do great work and are great people. Frank and I are close friends.

Is Frank Mikes son? Is that Mikes daughter that is the receptionist?

Azlin Taxidermy looks pretty impressive from the website. What's that guy doing way down in Clute? Seems like he'd be able to seriously grow his business if he were closer to Houston (maybe Pearland).

I've never used Conroe taxidermy even thought I've worked in the Woodlands for 12 years now. Might have to give them a try.

Does he meet people up closer to Houston to pick up and deliver?

Maybe, but if you've already got all the work you can handle then you can only grow by hiring more people and that makes your quality control more difficult. It's not always about bigger/richer.

Plus, the further from Houston the better. That place is the suckiest sh**hole on the face of the earth.

Houston may be a humid, drained swamp with no scenery, but its a humid, drained swamp with no scenery full of jobs and money.

Its not like Clute is some Garden of Eden either.

Fur and Feathers in Montgomery gets all of my taxi work. Mike is a graduate of the Conroe Taxidermy operation and has been on his own for a while. Local guy who does high quality work.

Prices are very reasonable and turn around time seems to be quicker than most.

You know, you seem to mention this about once a month and it's getting pretty old. Lots of people on this board live in Houston and happen to like it.

- 90 minutes from CS to watch our Aggies play
- 45 minutes from the coast to saltwater fish
- 240 minutes from South Texas to hunt whitetail, dove, quail, etc
- Lots of rivers and lakes to fish for bass, crappie, and catfish
- Tons of hot women
- Large diversity of restaurants and nightlife
- Good suburbs and school districts to raise your kids
- Alot of great jobs that pay well so we can take guided hunting/fishing trips around the world

If you don't mind the heat during the summer and live/work in a place that avoids traffic, then it's not a bad place to live. If you want to live in a place that you can't find a decent looking girl, can't drive down the block and find multiple venues to have a beer on the back patio with your buddies, or want to spend every day of the week screwing around with your 87 game cameras, then it's probably not for you. You act like you live in the most bad ass place in the country. I'm pretty sure that most of us wouldn't live in Kansas if it meant we could have a 12" dong.

You could have reduced that response to "Alot of great jobs that pay well".

That's the entire reason 4+ million people live here (other than low cost of living). Lots of places have better scenery and better climates. Lotta good that does you if you're unemployed.

Here in the energy capital of the world, we gots da jobs.

...and your point is? I mean I disagree with virtually everything you say but I don't ask you to stop saying it.

It wasn't like I jumped on a random thread and started bashing Houston. Someone asked, "why not Houston" and since I hate Houston, that seemed a likely answer. It's an opinion, on an opinion board. Don't let it get your $500 purse in a twist.

Houston does have da jobs. I've been offered more than a few of them but I've always politely declined because I won't live there. In fact I would argue part of the reason they've gots lots of jobs is because a lot of people don't want to live there. But honestly I'm glad 4M people choose to live there because it keeps them from clogging up places that I do like to stay & visit.

Yeah, the second post definitely confirmed the same ignorance that was in the first post.
