Trying to decide if I want a deisel or gas Polaris Ranger for working around my place and recreational purposes. Too old for speeding around so that is not an issue. Opinions?

Are you going to be doing anything that would require the extra torque of the diesel?

Gas is cheaper and usually requires less maintenance.

My FIL has a diesel and the noise and smell get old fast, however, he has a diesel tank at the property and not having to monkey with gas tanks is nice.

I'm getting a Crew 800 hopefully this week. The gas has plenty of motor

Will a diesel survive an EMP and thus provide reliable transportation in a post-apocalyptic world? That's the important question.

Go gas. All things are cheaper that way. Plus, less noise and smell.

Diesel UTV's are pretty damn low maintenance. If you can turn it over, odds are that it will start. Can't say that for a lot of small gas engines I've had the displeasure of using over the years.

It's just my opinion as well but deer and other critters just don't get all that excited about hearing a diesel engine. They certainly aren't spooked very easily with farm equipment. I had a bunch of turkeys casually trot past my diesel kioti yesterday as I was driving back to a field.

Isn't the diesel more expensive? I went with the 800 Crew in gas.

Not a Polaris, but last year we purchased a Kubota UTV and I was debating between gas and diesel. We ended up going with the diesel but it had noticably more power than the gas model. It is also nice since we have the diesel tank on the farm.

The Kubota is a much different piece of equipment than a Ranger but looking back I'm glad we went with the diesel.

My neighbors Diesel Kubota is sweet.

The Diesel Kawasaki we used was a disaster from the start. Noisy, underpowered, and a PIA to work on.

Never ridden in a Diesel Polaris but in my opinion, if you are doing alot of driving throughout a day that diesel on ATV's will beat you up after awhile. Combine the noise and vibration with the bumping of the road and it almost feels like getting punched by a 5 year old over and over again.

Get both, drive them around and see which one you like better... Then give me the other one

One word: ETHANOL
Is it in gas, yes.
Is it in diesel, no.

I know what I would pick for a vehicle that I wont be driving everyday.

SoTx, the polaris and kioti don't ride like the kubota. I don't see how a diesel would be more uncomfortable compared to suspension.

And the ethanol thing is a good point. I'm surprised they don't make a good propane conversion for utv's (maybe they do but I've never seen one) or offer factory propane engines, that would be a hell of a lot more reliable in a vehicle that can easily sit for a few weeks or even months.

Just bought the Polaris 800 Crew LE (white) this weekend. It's gas and it climbs like a beast. should have picked up one sooner.

deisel runs about $1,300.00 more than gas and am trying to reconcile the fuel economy and longevity vs. speed and lower cost of gas. Thank you all for your input and keep it coming as I am buying one or the other this week.

I'm buying mine from Hoffpauir in Goldthwaite. Great prices and lower delivery/setup/prep by far than anyone I talked to in San Antonio/New Braunfels

Well, when you go to buy, make sure to get a diesel and not a deisel.

If you have a diesel tank on the property to fill up at, a diesel is a no brainer IMO. If you have to haul gas, it is a tossup.

Drive them both and buy what you like. I wish the three Honda 4 wheelers we have were diesel to make fillups easier. Pulling up the diesel mower w kubota engine to the bulk tank sure spoils me. Not sure how the engines hold up in Rangers for you though.

Analyze how much you will use it and how often it will sit up if gas. If you are hauling it around, you might consider matching it to whatever your truck burns.

How did the DEISEL Ranger hold up? I found a newer/used diesel model with about 900 hours on it and would like some real reviews before doing anything. Any feedback would be appreciated. Hours/miles, problems..

I see in this post you're considering the Can-Am. Did you get it? What was the deal on the '17 Ranger?
