This month’s issue of Cook’s Illustrated claims that they significantly improved the blind taste test scores of several brands of bourbon costing less than $15/750ml by adding ¾ teaspoon of Vanilla Extract, 1/8 Teaspoon of Liquid Smoke and 1 Tablespoon of Dry Sherry to each bottle. They used a bottle of 12 year old W.L. Weller as the benchmark to compare them to.

Other than vanilla, I dont keep the other ingredients in my house. So if I was to go buy sherry and liquid smoke, I might as well spring for a $25-30 bottle of good bourbon.

Intriguing. I may try this just for the hell of it.

If you are not in high school or college, cheap bourbon should not be in your daily vocabulary.

If you are going to drink, drink something good.
