I have no idea about the fishing but this might be good to know. This is dated information (circa 1980 +/-) but I recall one of my WFS professors telling us about very high arsenic levels in fish one of the smaller lakes around Bryan. I can't recall which lake exactly. He said large amounts of arsenic and other nasty chemicals associated with cotton production from the 50's & 60's were in the fish. They would still be fun to catch but I wouldn't take them home for a meal. I think TPWD maintains a file on contaminated waters so you might try to confirm which lake I'm talking about.

There is a reason it is called lake arsenic. The chemical plant up stream from that lake and the lake on the muni golf course had a problem back in the 50s-60s and polutted those lakes. Stay out of them.

The arsenic settles in the bottom, it's perfectly safe to fish. Just don't eat your catch. Also, I thought Finfeather Lake was completely closed to the public.

Went out today instead and fished by the railroad tracks. Out there for about 2 hours. Caught a mess of perch and a couple of small bass.

If it's off limit to the public, you woulda never guessed it. There was about 5 teenagers out there in a little Jon boat and some kayaks. A guy and his nephew were out there tearing up some perch too.

Overall, nothing to really write home about. It was a fine way to relieve some stress right before finals kick up, though.

Hmm, last time I was up close there was probably 10 years ago and it was fenced off with "no trespassing" signs.

Fin feather lake is awesome. My house in college backed up to it. All land was condemned so we had a HUGE backyard. We always went out there on a little bass buster plastic boat. Lots of bass and perch. I never ate them but I had a buddy that did.
