How long do you want to ignore this user?
Over Spring Break, the wife and I and some friends went skiing in Colorado. Long story short, I fell and tore my ACL. Surgery went well this morning, but God knows I'm not going to be riverdancing any time soon. I also DON'T want to watch daytime TV all day (I could care less who the frickin father is), so I'd rather do something a little better with my time. My wife got a nook for Christmas, and I'd like to bone up on some good reads while I'm out of commission. I've heard Work War Z is good, what else y'all got? FYI I enjoy post apocalyptic, dystopian society, and most sci fi novels.

I've already read Enders Game, Hatchet, Maze Runner series, even read the Hunger Games with the rib and enjoyed it. I kind of want to start reading books with an older audience, now though. Post your favorite or link me to any threads that might have good suggestions/discussions.

I'm not sure the OB is the correct place for the kinda books you are looking for...

CJ Box is a personal favorite of mine (incidently got hooked during ACL recovery).

I highly recommend "A Beast in the Garden" to anyone, and A Sand County Alamanac if you have never read it.

If you can get "Hell I was there" Elmer Keith's story that is a good read. He was a cool dude and yeah he was there.

Anything Michael Crichton is good. Lots of thought both goes into and comes out of his stuff. Same for Tom Clancy, although he's not exactly in the vein you asked for. E. E. Knight's Vampire Earth series is good, post apocalyptic alien vampire novels, not whiny and shiny. I'd also recommend a good survival manual or two, on the basis of practical reading.
