So I went wade fishing for the first time in port o Connor and definitely caught the fishing bug. It's still nt hunting but I had a blast. I am terrified of sharks and never thought I would do it but it was exhilarating!

Anyways, the in laws have a bay house and a boat in Spanish grant and we take the boat out to greens lake and like one other spot to go fishing. We haven't really had any luck. My father in law is pretty new to Galveston fishing and I am pretty sure he is afraid to take the boat to new places.

I really want to catch some more fish but don't really have any experience in the area. Can y'all give this newbie some advice? I am open for wading, drifting or with a boat. Any advice is much appreciated.

Work the south shoreline coves with topwaters and along the sand socks with New Penny Gulps and Avocado Bass Assassins. You'll catch some trout.

Previous poster is correct. Look for off color, streaky water, with bait jumping and tide movement and you are bound to catch something.

Also there is some excellent wade fishing around the San Luis Pass/ Cold Pass/ Bird Island area. Lots to offer...shallow sand/mud flats, grass flats, deeper guts near shallow water, back lakes, oyster reefs in Bastrop. I throw topwaters, soft plastics, corkies, gulps, and norton sand eel jrs.

You have to be careful navigating around the Pass area because of the extremely shallow sand bars near the deep channels. A lot of times your either in the channel or on the sand bar. Google earth is your friend to get an idea of where the channels are (keep in mind they are constantly changing). I suggest trying to navigate around on a nice sunny day so you can easily see the shallow areas. After a while you will figure out how to navigate around.
