How long do you want to ignore this user?
Spinoff thread so as not to derail Towns03's:

I leave my loaded Beretta in a small safe next to my bed, but the safe is portable and easy to steal.

Does anyone have a method of securing the safe to prevent it from being easily stolen? Anchor it to a stud or the slab?

I've never really considered it before.

Mine is screwed to my night stand. Someone could take the whole night stand if they wanted it bad enough...or perhaps beat it with a sledge hammer until it breaks apart...but at least that way they have to work for it a little bit.

Hoss has it right. Screw it down or chain it to something big, not just the floor or wall. Night stand, dresser, the bed frame, etc.

I think you have to look at the cost to replace the side table vs. cost to replace the gun.

If I had a small safe attached to something wooden these crooks would have spent several minutes trying to break the safe off. The worst case is you lose your gun AND your table, haha.

my plan moving forward is to put my bedside gun in the safe every morning when I leave for work.

Some might consider a floor or wall to be bigger (and more sturdy) than a night stand, dresser or bed frame. Just sayin'.

That's a very good point. If your night stand is worth more than your gun then it might not be the best thing to bolt it to. My night stand doesn't have any real value, but it's made of solid oak and it's heavy so someone would have to really want it bad to carry it downstairs and out the door.

My downstairs pistol safe is bolted to the bottom shelf inside one of our kitchen cabinets. I keep my CCW gun in there as well as a second one for the wife to have access to when I'm away. Upstairs on the night stand I have a different one with a light mounted on it. And though I wouldn't want to lose them, these are Glocks so we're not talking about $1500 custom 1911's or anything like that. They'd be somewhat easy to replace if they were stolen.

my bedside table has two drawers. I put the safe in the top drawer, and run the cable out the back of the the table and secure it to my bed frame...so they'll have to go through the table and my bed frame...although admittedly, if they've got a pair of good size dykes or a bolt cutter it will easily cut through the cable that I've got... but hopefully it'll be enough to make them want to move on to an easier target like my wife's jewelry which is worth 10 times more than my gun, makes perfect sense in my mind anyway

In all seriousness, for me, it's more about keeping the kids out of it, than it is about keeping it from getting stolen

I don't want to sound like a complete idiot here, but could someone explain how it is bolted under the bed? That sounds perfect for what I would like to do.

I think it would depend on how your bed is set up. You could bolt it to the bottom leg of the headboard if it's sturdy enough. Or, you could bolt it to the floor underneath the bed if you have carpet or don't mind messing up your floor.

if the height of the safe is right, you may be able to put bolts through the top of the safe into the support slats under the bed

Mine the front screw hole is in the side of the outer frame of the bed right by where I sleep, side opposite of the door, back two bolts go into the slat. I also secured that slat to the bed frame on both ends. In addition it is difficult to see the safe under there, if you lift up the bed skirt to look under the bed you are very likely to miss it.

Was wondering about the same thing recently. Bed and nightstand are all made out do pretty cheap wood (at least where it could get bolted to anyways) so not sure there is a good option. Like a poster above said though, at least it keeps it out of the rug rats hands...
