Has anyone been? While we enjoy the rugged beauty of some of the hill country parks, and the swampy flats of Brazos Bend, we're looking for a more lush, heavily wooded park to try out. Hiking, kayaking/canoeing, and star gazing are priorities. If there's a park that also has low impact backpacking camp sites, that's a plus. TIA!

Pretty little park with great Chain Pickerel fishing in the clear, spring fed lake. Big trees, No backpacking, closest thing is a hiking trail that circles the lake. Just reopened this past summer after a major overhaul of the facilities. Caddo Lake isn't far away.

Beautiful little park.

Flyfisher is spot on.

Also, time it for the Dogwood blooms.

Tyler State Park may fit your needs, too.

Love DSP, haven't been since the overhaul, but am planning to get our there sometime this spring.

Loved it as a kid, but haven't been since the remodel and not sure how it would translate as an adult. Caddo, Lake-of-the-Pines, Cypress and Bob Sandlin are all a short drive if you want to mix it up. Jefferson isn't too far away either for a historical town excursion if you want a day away from the park.

Ditto the Dogwood timing comment. Tyler SP is great for all of that too.
