Any suggestions to get rid of the stench? I've tried dawn mixed with peroxide, need something stronger.

GoJo or FastOrange.

I think that worked for a guy that I worked with last year.

Add baking soda to the peroxide/dawn mix.

Why bother trying to remove the odor? It will go away on its own.

Not sure if serious? My dog got sprayed 6 months ago and you can still smell it on him when he gets wet.

Yep, equal parts dawn/baking soda/peroxide. Lather it on pup and keep on as long as possible, then rinse, lather, repeat. Try to find the contact point of the spray and really focus there.

When my dog was sprayed, he thought he was "checking the health" of a cat, so he caught the spray on the right side of his snout. He proceeded to rub in the damp grass, moving the musk oil down coat along his neck and body. The mixture knocked that off pretty quick, but his snout took a series of cleanings, and even then, you could smell it up to 3-4 months later when he would get wet (though the smell was much lessened in intensity).

Have fun.

She also got sprayed right on the snout. After several baths, she still smells, but I can't tell how bad anymore. She sleeps in the bedroom with my wife and I. I'm at work and I still smell skunk, but the good news is no one else can smell it. She's definitely getting another bath when I get home, need to pick up more baking soda.

Tomato sauce is supposed to do the trick as well.

1 QT hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
and a little liquid dish soap to act at a binder

Apply for 5 minutes, then rinse.

Don't get the mixture in the dog's eyes.

Also, the sooner you act, the easier it is to get rid of the smell. One of my dogs got sprayed about 10 PM one evening, by 10:20 he was in the house snuggled up to me with no smell.

The other dog escaped one night and came home the next morning. He took several baths (and turned from black & tan to a nice auburn color) to remove the odor.

you need the dawn, skunk spray is an oil, and the dawn helps to cut it. Nothing you can do for the bad skunk breath, usually take about 6 weeks for that to go away on my dog.

my lab loves to tangle with skunks and Emy's recipe is what we used, worked better than anything. If the dog is an inside dog (or light colored fur) I wouldn't used tomato sauce.

Mine got sprayed about 4 months ago. I tried all of the home remedies and none of them completely got rid of it. Ended up getting some stuff specifically for that from PetCo and it worked...after about 5 baths with it.

I haven't tried it but why wouldn't some of the scent destroyer hunting products. I mean they eliminate scent so deer can't smell.

Of course I'm serious.

My dog has been sprayed by skunks many times. It's all up to him. If he don't like it, then he can stop bothering the skunks. It's not like the odor will cause any harm to him.
