I wanted a Line-X bedliner for my truck this christmas and my dad decided he wanted the same thing. He went to the local line-x shop, got them done and lied to me about it...I fell for it and this thread is now evidence of my stupidity

me either, but its the only place in Auburn that does Line-X and I'm seriously not interested in waiting till June to get it done.

if line-x is as good as they say it is, i wouldn't imagine 55 degrees to be a problem??

Can't remember when I had mine done, but it has definitely been a good investment. However, I don't remember anything issues about outdoor temps.

I wonder if they don't have a good indoor shop for drying and curing.

I did my last truck in Lewisville. I don't remember the outside temperature but it was in February. Probably not that cold but it was done totally inside.

I had mine done in February. ...in NE Kansas.

I guarantee you it wasnt 50. Now maybe the shop is heated, etc. But this sounds odd to me.

With Line-X, you overpay 25-50% just for the name. There are a lot of good options out there besides Line-X. If you're interested, head on over to the Auto board and run a search.

Regarding the temperature, I'm sure you could look it up on their website if you really cared, but most products have an application temperature range. I had mine done in Austin in the October/November time frame several years ago, but the temp could have been anywhere from 30 to 100.

From their website.

I would think a shop could do it inside and be warm enough.

quote:
CONDITIONS WHILE APPLYING MATERIAL

Appropriate cautionary measures shall be taken when spraying in wind velocities greater than 10 miles per hour. Application shall not commence outdoors during inclement weather or when it appears to be imminent.

Areas not receiving LINE-X shall be protected from over-spray.

Areas shall be kept clear of foot traffic and equipment from other trades during the application.

Good adhesion is essential for a long service life. Adhesion failure can be caused by one of the following:

Chemical components not properly mixed,
Chemicals not in correct ratio,
Spraying against wet surface,
Spraying against cold surface (minimum surface temp 60 degrees °F),
Improper substrate surface preparation.

I had Line-X in my old Dodge and really liked it. I can see the temps needing to be warm, but it would seem like any shop would have heaters to compensate for that.

A local shop here in San Antonio (Planet Pickup) uses this brand

http://www.ameraguardliners.com/

They put it in mine, it's every bit as good as Line X, have had no issues. Looks just like Line X, too. Had both the bed and toolbox done. You may want to see if there's a shop near you that uses them.

Edit: Now that I've actually looked at their website, it appears these guys are only in SA. I thought it was a national brand, guess I was wrong.

You may pay extra for the name, but you also get a life time guarantee, and they'll fix it anywhere in the country for free.

Also, Line-X is better looking and has a better texture than any of the others I've seen. Mine looks brand new and its a year old.

These guys in Houston make some really great products, and they are the absolute authorities on two part urethanes. I've dealt with them in the past and I'd almost guarantee their product is top-notch, and their service and technical assistance excellent:

If 50 degrees is too cold, how hot does it have to be to put it on? Why would you have to wait until June. You would think it would warm up before then.

I've got LineX in my truck, however I bought it used. It's still in good shape despite some rough use.

I can see there being an issue in the application. Probably something to do with the curing of the epoxy. My BiL taught me how to build a rod over the weekend and we built out a sweet 6wt that we didn't get to finish because of the temps needed to cure the epoxy on the thread wraps so he took it back to Bandera to cure in his shop there.

As far as temp goes, I would be willing to bet that it has to do with their product being a single-part urethane that is moisture cured. There's not enough ambient moisture at lower temperatures to get the stuff to cross-link to itself and the surface of the truck bed in a timely fashion, plus more heat makes it react faster.

A heated building with a humidifier works... I've heard of people wetting the concrete floors in the dry wintertime to get moisture-cured adhesives to perform properly.

I'm in SA and want to get my bed sprayed. How much did it cost you to get it done at Planet Pickup? Thanks.

I use my truck bed extensively (2 yards gravel, 3.5 yards sand, 6 yards road base and around a ton of stone just in the past 2 months for a patio project), and while my Line-X has done it's job, I would not say that it looks new. There is also a noticeable (to me) difference in shades of gray between the bed of the my truck and the tailgate, which sees less direct sunlight.

When I had my Line-X installed, it was the best liner available. Now, the gap is much smaller in the quality of liners available and the price difference justifies additional research in lieu of just spouting out "Line-X."

I did tons of research, that's why I have a line-x.

I also have a protective coat on mine that the dealer threw in for free. Still looks brand new. I have a black truck and the bed is still shiny black and matching.

Fact of the matter is, IF there is one that is as high of quality as Line-X, does it come with a nation wide lifetime guarantee? I seriously doubt there is any competitor that can compete with that. If there is, I sure couldn't find it this time last year when I was looking.
BoozerRed78
How long do you want to ignore this user?
@ Barnaby - the bedliner was $375 (2011 F-150 short bed), plus an additional $165 to coat the toolbox.

Planet Pickup came highly recommended to me by a friend of mine. I recommend them as well. Really like the quality of their work, and their prices seem decent.

One of the auto board guys just had Xtreme liner installed in Houston. Says he likes it better than Line-X and cost looks to be about half. They have a life time warranty and a nation wide dealer network.

i'm an idiot. my parents lied to me and I believed it. Been in Texas for a couple of weeks now and opened a gift with a receipt for my paid in full Line-x bedline. I thought my dad was above this christmas deception, but I also didn't think I was this stupid.

**It was $400.00 ($50.00 discount/truck) since they were doing 2.

My suggestion is find a buddy who is willing to go in with you and work a deal somewhere.

Congrats in the new bedliner. You'll love it.

Those xtremes may be really nice. I looked at them and the cost difference was only $75 and I didn't think they looked as good. Also, there are about a third of the dealers.

I spoke with the owner of the Line-X store in Auburn, AL about this. This is not true and there was obviously some sort of misunderstanding. This particular Line-X store was closed for the holidays between Christmas and New Years and reopened today. They were extremely busy and booked right up until Christmas and that's why they had to schedule trucks after the New Year.

Line-X can be sprayed in cold temperatures. The truck is brought inside the spray booth, dried, and properly prepared before applying Line-X. They are actually spraying 3 trucks this morning and it's 38 degrees. Line-X is applied on a daily basis in places like Canada in the middle of winter with no issues.

Line-X is the industry leader in truck bed protection and offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty at over 400 locations nationwide. This is because Line-X it is a unique "hybrid" polyurethane/polyurea product that has a higher tensile strength, is chemical resistant, provides unmatched protection against gouges and tears, and contains no VOC's. Line-X is a two part component applied at high temperature and high pressure to the truck bed at 120 mils (1/8") thick and dries to touch in 3-5 seconds!! This is typically twice the thickness as some other off brand spray-on bedliners.

To learn more about Line-X Protective Coatings and why they continue to be the leaders in the spray-on truck bedliners for nearly 20 years, visit www.LINEX.COM

TexAgs...what power she possesses. I followed up that I am stupid, been out of town for almost a month, and my dad flat out lied to me as they already had it done. From the picture, CTU in Auburn did a great job. I'll be back in auburn in a week and no longer will have to cringe when I load the dogs in the back

My dad has always been above Xmas deception. 100 points to my parents on that one. I was very surprised when I opened my receipt for my new bed liner.

Glad to see it was just a matter of your Dad pulling your leg and suprising you with a Line-X bedliner for Christmas.

Kevin and David Walker at Line-X Custom Trucks Unlimited do a great job and we are proud of them! I'm glad to see you are happy with your new Line-X bedliner and "hats off" to your Dad for pulling it off. We wish you the best for the New Year...

If it had come from my mom, I never would have bought it...but since it was dad....I had to ask TexAgs. I'know I'll be a positive supporter of line x and CTU in Auburn. Especially, when I see their management following up on something as ridiculous as this. Gives me that much more faith in the product and it's commitment to its consumers. Thanks Dennis.

I also think my body armor was line x lined while I was deployed so thanks for that too.
