To change parameters, and thanks all for current input, does anyone know a getaway spot with decent wooded cabins? Bevers bend is out I can't find any worth renting for 2 people that are still available for this weekend.

Possum Kingdom Lake may have something around it. I was there camping with the Y-guides 2 weeks ago and the burn-ban had been lifted. Not sure about public camping locations, however.

There are a few lakes about 1.25 hours north of DFW in Oklahoma which are really nice.

Yeah I grew up going to murray, but their public campgrounds can get super crowded. Do you know If there are any good paddle rental companies at pk, I have never gone out there (embarrassing, I know)

If you can drive a little further (about 3 hours) the broken bow/beaver's bend SP area of oklahoma is great.

You could try camping at lake Whitney. It's low, I'm pretty sure there's a burn ban, but I always saw lot of deer.

Isle du Bois on Ray Roberts fits the bill. No clue how crowded it is though.

I was at Beavers Bend two weeks ago, it was crowded.

Lake Murray is good, but Turner Falls has private cabins for rent if you are just wanting a place to hang out
