Anyone else seen this show?

Could they cast Texans in a worse light? I mean 2 chicks in chaps and gunbelts is pretty damn awesome, but where did they dig up the pappy from?

All I can think about is how the whole operation doesn't make sense. How much are they getting paid to pull a couple hoggs off someone's property? they have 4 trucks, 4 people and two horses on site. I can't believe they're making enough to feed their families.

That show is so idiotic. Let's see, acting like a little kick from your horse is a serious issue, jerking your atv out of the sand rather than pulling it out, treating a 25 lb hog like hogzilla. I've never seen real people act like that. But then I've never seen a woman go hog hunting.

They've got some nice atvs, though. I wonder if the show bought them.

What gets me is that they act like catching two hogs solves someone's problem.

Pappy has more analogies than Carter's got pills. He doesn't even communicate without throwing one in there.

I also liked his schpiel on hogs eatin ya; made it sound like hogs are predators of man!

Lol. That old lady is sure glad they caught the killer hog.

The daughter looked like she had an A&M belt buckle.

Very inefficient way to handle a hog problem. It's not equivalent to being a dog catcher.

And they are getting paid to be filmed.

Still pisses me off though, every person they've shown on this show part of the cast or not appears to have a flagpole for a family tree. Do people outside of Texas really think that is representative of the greatest state in the union?

"It just kills me that hard working Texans are getting laid off cause of these damn hogs."

I would imagine A&E won't let them dispatch the hogs while filming. But, I could be wrong.

@sotxag

You're right. I had to go look for it, but it's a 2005 steer wrestling belt buckle from A&M. Upon reading the article, they are from Brownwood. She's studying at TAMU-CC.

A&E also promoted the show with Pappy as a former Texas Ranger but has since changed their tune as he was never a Texas Ranger.

i caught an episode for the first time the other night. was just shaking my head at it most of the night.

id like to see them catch a bad one with those girls trying to throw and tie it (and that one dude just standing back being useless).

I enjoy this show quite a bit. They have to find "characters" to make it interesting. The old man is really the only one way out there though. And, like I said on the other thread, I know quite a few old Germans that would need subtitles on national TV. The way they show hunting with the dogs is pretty accurate. No way to fake that part really.

They catch the hogs live to sell. I doubt they get paid by the landowners. There are just too many people that will do it for free to charge.

Also, to respond to Isle, when you run hogs with dogs, often times they will move on. They may not have caught all the hogs around there, but the ones left probably get the hell out of Dodge.

My old man and his crew run hogs in Fayette county. On a given weekend they'll have 20 dogs and 15-20 guys. Some weekends they get shut out, sometimes they kill upwards of 20. Very seldom can they hunt the same place 2 weekends in a row though. The hogs don't stick around if they are run with dogs. I've always pictured it as roving bands of bandits, moving to the place of least resistance to pillage and plunder! hahaa

LG - I understand what you are saying about the subtitling, the only thing is - he's not speaking with a German accent. Not a even a thick cajun accent ala Swamp People. El no es Mexicano. Fact is he's talking in perfectly understandable english with a strong East(?) Texas accent and pushing it out of the last 3 days of groceries stuck in his craw.

The subtitiling just adds effect, or affect. But I'm pretty sure it's effect. Maybe I need subtitling??

Being from Brownwood its not an East Texas Accent

LG, I'm not criticizing their method as inefficient. I know it ain't easy. I'm just saying that catching four hogs doesn't solve anyone's problem.

My experience has been that catching them is more recreational than effective.

Poisoning them is the only thing I've heard of that seriously cleans them out. But then you have to worry about someone killing one for meat and getting sick or worse.
LGAggie

Yeah their method is pretty standard for hunting with dogs. My point is, by running with the dogs, they are likely clearing them out, if only in the very small area that was having trouble. In effect, they could be making the hogs left someone else's problem.

And I'd say hunting with dogs can be very effective at removing a population. I only have anecdotal evidence though. The old man and his hunting group have had trouble finding places to go hunt after several months of hitting them heavy. Seems like less hogs around in general. But, who knows what steps other people in Fayette county are taking.

I get a kick out of the old man and his accent.

Like all shows, there is a ton of fake stuff or things that just do not make any sense in real life.

"When I go to heaven, there is going to be a heckuva pack of dogs waiting there for me."

...old man after his dog Rooster died.

I believe the belt buckle comes from her boyfriend who is a good all-around rodeo cowboy, he is the son of my first cousin.
And yes, TV's version of stuff vs. real life is way different...thought most of you would have figured that out by now!
Its called entertainment value, agree with it or not its what makes a TV show.

I'm with you aTm papi - I love the Campbells! Very entertaining.
Anyone who is unaware of the feral hog situation, check out http://imgur.com/TuNMY. These wild boars are responsible for multi-million dollar damages every year.
I'm helping A&E spread the word about American Hoggers so if there are any questions let me know.

Where are they filming at? It looks like south Texas but my Dad told me they are filming somewhere in the Hill Country.

I looked up some info and the old man used to work for the government eradicating nuisance animals.

Apparently my father-in-law (a good Ag) knew the guy growing up in Early/Brownwood and even hunted with him when they were young.
