I know you guys will have some fun with this, but no, NO, it's not for me.

I have a friend down in the D/FW area that is prepping for a Christmas present for his lady friend. Wants to buy her something nice and was fretting to me about how jewelry stupid he was. ...I don't know why he was asking me since my idea of jewelry is racing pigeon bands on a necklace made of 10# monofilament, but he was. I promised to try to help if only to get him to shut up about it.

So, some of you like to buy your wimmenz expensive purses and other such trinkets. Anyone have any recommendations for custom jewelers in the D/FW area?

The only rec I can give is Chuck, but he's in Bryan. I know many ags that have done business with him from a distance and never once heard of anyone that had less than a stellar experience.

Here's another vote for Chuck at 5th C in Bryan. He's an Aggie and a great guy. My husband got my engagement ring from Chuck while still living in Tennessee. My brother-in-law (also in Tennessee) had Chuck custom-make my sister's engagement ring after we recommended him.

His prices were hard to beat and he aims to please.

Robbins Brothers....They have a store in Arlington and I believe in the Dallas area. My girl loved the ring I got here there.

Don't do Robbins Bros. Retail not the way to go. I actually just got back to the office from seeing the guy I have used. Just had my wife's engagement ring and wedding band checked to make sure the stone is still secure and have it cleaned. Guy lets me do it a couple times a year for no charge. He has done great work for me and some of my friends.

5th C Chuck. We live in FW & the bf is currently working with him on my engagement ring. Chuck set up a phone meeting with him at 9PM one night to discuss what we (well, I) want. He had just finished putting his kids to sleep (who does this?!?). They talked for almost an hour. The bf is going into this blind & he said Chuck was awesome in answering all of his questions, explaining everything to him & really listening to want we (again, I) want. The bf couldn't have been happier & more impressed. So it is easy to work with him from a distance.

Plus his prices are the best you will find, he is FULL of info & is honest.

I agree on Chuck. I ordered my fiancee's enagagement ring blind from Chuck after talking with him over the phone and looking at a drawing he put together...let me say I was more than impressed by his attitude, his service, his pricing, and his willingness to work with me, and probably, in spite of me. My fiancee was no less impressed than I, and the wedding band will be supplied by Chuck as well.

Talk to Chuck. I dealt with him from out here in Singapore and was/am 110% happy with the process. Just an overall down to earth guy and is not some crap salesman trying to make a buck.

Though I've already posted and recommended Chuck, I'd like to add more to my story just to tell more about him as a person. Sorry it's long- I promise it's worth reading.

I was living in CS, boyfriend (now husband) was still in Tennessee. We had been talking about marriage and rings and I told him some friends had recommended a guy in CS: nice guy, low prices, straight-shooter. So boyfriend told me to call and meet this "Chuck" guy to see if he was legit.

I set up a meeting with him and we went over the 4 C's and he showed me some loose stones, talked to me about what I liked and which C's were most important to me ( and no, it isn't carat!). After I left, he called my bf and they had basically the same conversation. BF tells me that Chuck is going to get several loose diamonds that match our specs and will call me to come look at them to weed out or narrow down to a few.

So I meet Chuck several days later to look at stones. I think we did this two different times. Then one afternoon he calls and says "Rocky Top, I just got a new diamond in that I think you and Mr. Rocky Top will love. Can you come look at it?"

I say, "sure, I'll come by around 5 or so" Chuck says, "well, I've got a meeting/ballgame" (I can't remember exactly what he said) this evening. Can you meet me at the office at 10pm?"

At this point, I went from thinking he was a super great, nice guy to a creepy psycho! I said "well, I guess?" Weirdo.

To wrap this story up, my BF was going to fly in to CS airport that night, Chuck was going to pick him up at the airport and take him to his office so that when I got there at 10pm to "look at a new diamond", BF would have walked in from another room and proposed.Great surprise, huh?

What happened was BF's flight was delayed out of Nashville so that when he got to DFW, the connection was cancelled. He got re-routed to Austin but then he had to call and tell me what was going on at this point so that I could go pick him up in Austin at 11:30 at night.

The point is that Chuck didn't just care about selling us a piece of jewelry, he was willing to risk looking like a psycho and miss an evening at home with his family to help my BF surprise me. Even though the plan didn't go quite as smoothly as BF or Chuck had hoped, I wasn't expecting to get engaged that night!

Thanks Rocky, I bet I had you worried. I appeciate your shout out.
