Scorpion in the house?

I live in Waller county...and the rib just reported a small scorpion underneath the bathroom rug.

I have two questions and concerns:

1.) Where the hell did it come from? I never even knew we had scorpions in this area.

2.) How did it get IN the house? The only way I can figure is in a slightly open door...no other way in except.....it rode in on one of us... O_o

What is odd is that I just recently soaked the exterior walls from the ground up to about a two feet on the exterior with Demon WP....that stuff kills everything...maybe I need to double up the dosage.

Scorpions live about everywhere. They can easily get into your home through the tinest crevices. If you find one you usually find a second one. They have a terrible sting with swelling and pain, but usually not life-threatening. Be sure and shake out your shoes before you put them on. Spray around your doors and windows. I've been stung before, once on the face while sleeping. I tried to brush it away not knowing what it was and it popped me.

Weep holes and bad weather stripping.

Had a couple in our house back in May. Had the house sprayed, haven't had any trouble since.

You already have scorpions in the house, hiding in the wall and attic. Therefore, if you only sprayed the exterior of the house, you did not attack the ones that are already inside. You might consider treating the inside of the house with an appropriate product.

If you followed the dosing rules to begin with, doubling the dose will not help.

Grew up in Houston and had a home in Wimberley all my life. While we'd see them every weekend in the Hill Country, your's is the first time I've ever heard of a scorp in Houston. Not doubting you, but just surprised.

i've seen 3 in my house over the past 5 or 6 years. you'll find them in the bathroom a lot because they can tend to come in through the pipes. the last one i found was on my bedroom floor on my way back from the bathroom. Thank God i didnt step on him on the way to the bathroom. I had to of stepped right over him due to the location he was found.

You might laugh at the "get a cat" suggestion, but it is true. i hate my wife's cats, until we brought a scorpion home in our luggage after a trip to Brenham. The cat started crying like she was going to cough up a hairball. I went out to yell at her and she was watching a scorpion climb up the wall...dead scorpion and slept well that night. Still hate cats though.

Sounds like some of yall wouldn't like my office. Most days I have 2-3 under my desk. After a while, they become almost like pets.

The poison I use has two dozing schedules. One is standard grade and one is heavier for spiders and pill bugs. Guess I'll just keep my eyes peeled and check my drurs fore pittin them on.

Out here in W. Texas the scoprions were horrible this year more than likely because of the epic drought.

I have to spray my place once a month or I get up to 3-4 per week in my place.

there are a lot of them in west texas.. just be carefull walking around the house at night.. they tend to stick to the wall and corners. and pull your bed away from the wall.. they can climb those. my parents woke up one morning and saw one hanging out on the celing.

I have found Bifen to work the best, granted the only other thing I've tried is Demon WP. I have a friend in pest control who said Bifen is the safest to use around small children.

An exterminator comes to our house every three months to keep the scorpions at bay. Don't know what I'd do without him. Scorpions thrive in Aggieland!

We have our attic dusted about twice a year. It knocks the scorpions out pretty well. Not sure what chemical they use, but it works.

Cat just found another one in he hall!!

Ffffffuuuuuuu

Should I spray Bifen or cy kick or just stick to demon? Should I hit the inside of he house? Never seen scorpions in my house in five years. Got 3 and 1 year old so I'm a little concerned.

BrazosDog02:

I also have a 3 and 1 year old, so the scorpion problem definitely freaks me out too. Our local feed store has both Demon and Bifen and they recommended rotating them. I have personally had better success with Bifen and when my friend who runs a pest control business said that Bifen was safer to use around children that's what I decided to use.

I completely saturate the outside of my house, flower beds, garage - just completely cover the outside. I also spray the inside around the parameter of every room in the house. I probably spray a little more in bathrooms and kitchen.

I'm no expert, but it has helped and I hope you get your scorpion problem cleared up. The good thing, so I've been told, is when it gets cooler you won't see them at all. I plan to douse the place again late winter early spring to hopefully stop them before the start again next year. Good luck!

they say the scorpions are less lethal than red wasps and yellow jackets. just saying

Yeah, I know they aren't a big deal for stings and all. They just freak me out because they are in my house and I have never seen one in my house before. That's pretty much the gist of it. I killed two copperheads over the last two weeks right up on the porch by the front and back door...and that doesn't bother me....I think its the INSIDE part that bothers me.

Either way, Im going to get some poison recommended here and beef up my demon supply and give it a go. I just want to keep it under control.
