Are they protected in any way?

I'm shooting from the hip, but I thought all raptors have some type of protection.

Yes, all captors are protected. Big big fine for killing them.

No you cannot legally shoot any raptors unless you have a valid permit.

We always called cormorants mexican eagles. I guess some people use the term for Caracaras

I would say most folks would be referring to Caracaras.

They are protect under the MBTA.

I sure wish they weren't. I grew up in sheep and goat country and watched them kill a bunch of newborns.

What do you guys in sheep & goat country do about them? I assume they'd be a bigger problem for you. We've got a cow in the calving pasture that makes tagging calves hard because she's a ***** but she also goes after the eagles when they get too close to the calves.

Contact these folks, there may be some things that can be done under their permits. But they do like to get paid on the matter.

Part of the issue is MBTA is a multinational agreement, and get an amendment to it is a royal pain. I'm currently working with a city on a major migratory bird issue, and legislatures and senators alike pretty well backed down when they realized the logistics.

My game warden said yes it's illegal but kill every one you see.

He could lose his job very quickly that way if that got out publicly.

They can float up in rivers, die of "clear weather lightening", have a heart attack or stroke just like any other critter.
