Hey guys, I just bought the 55 gal Moultrie tripod feeder, it has the newer Moultrie pro feeder on it with the jack to plug-in the solar panel instead of having to use the alligator clips. So I bought the solar panel http://www.moultriefeeders.com/productdetail.aspx?id=mfh-dsp that plugs into it, but I can't figure out how to mount it to the feeder...no instructions or recommendations or pictures or anything with it in the packaging. It does come with some hardware, which I thought would allow me to attach it somewhere, but it's not intuitive. I am pretty much of the opinion that I need to drill a hole in the bottom of the barrel to mount it, but I just hate putting a hole in the bottom of my brand new 55-gal steel drum. Anyone have any suggestions or experience to share? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you just have to drill it.

First of all make sure your feeder has a 6v motor and battery

Second try to keep the slack out off the wire and make it as short as possible. Coons will use your feeder as a jungle gym and your equipment can take a beating

Something I have tried recently is rolling up a solar panel I'm some tight mesh wire next to the wire goes in the barrel. I can place the panel at an optimal angle and use the rolled wire and some slick wire to attach it to the feeder

I've tried calling Moultrie, but I didn't have all day to wait on hold and had to drop off after about 30 min. I've emailed them, so we'll see if they have any recommendations.

Make sure to face it south, at about a 45 degree angle for maximum sun exposure during the winter.

Our engineering firm does solar field design so for a pretty decent rate I could have you a good set of drawings and one-lines in no time.






Just kidding of course.....I think you are going to have to drill the barrel to mount it.

I figured I'll have to drill a hole. I am hoping the coons will leave it alone until I have a chance to thin 'em out with some duke coon traps.

I've always wondered why someone hasn't employed the use of strong (I.e. coon proof) magnets to held a solar charger to a barrel. The magnets would have to blundered to the barrel...
