Last season, I made the mistake of shooting some cheap wally world special shells. They were terrible. I borrowed some of my dad's Rem game loads (7/8oz) and started hammering them. That got me wondering, what is everyone's favorite dove load? Is 1oz better? Or is the extra velocity in the 7/8 oz more important?

Gunsmith recommended I use Winchester AA in my gun (Silver Pigeon 20 ga) after I had trouble with other ammo. Seems to work fine.
+ 1 for Winchester AA. Great patterns. I have used both the factory and my own reloads.
For doves I use a 20 ga gun. In some semi autos the AAs don't cycle well. If you are shooting a breach loader, makes no difference.

The super sport(1300fps) or just regular 1165fps?
I usually use Remington sure shot "heavy dove" whatever the heck that is supposed to mean 7 1/2 shot with zero problems. For the price it is the best you can get IMO.
7/8 oz #6's sitting over some Hodgdon Clays, Winchester AA wads and a Winchester primer always works for me.

I used to shoot 2 3/4 dr, 1 oz, 7 1/2 shot for pass shooting and after the northern birds got down.
Early in the season I'd shoot # 8 shot.

For a factory load I like the faster sporting clays stuff but if you are shooting doves over a stock tank instead of pass shooting then it doesn't matter.
I also have used Remington Heave Dove loads (20 gauge, 7.5, 1 oz). I miss the days of the $39.99 cases......
I like the way Estate patterns out of my o/u.
