I saw some white quail chicks on criagslist here in AZ and they called them Texas A&M quail. Did we develop our own bird?

Maybe the school is breeding them?

Coturnix quail are an Asian variety of quail.

Are they maroon?

Their poop is orange and white.

I thought they were white so they would be easier to shoot. Are they to be raise like chickens and ate when hungry?

They were selectively bread in order to develop at a faster rate. In other words their feed to gain ratio is much better than other varieties. They are white in order to prevent discoloration of the follicles during picking of the feathers during processing the same as commercial broilers and turkeys. If you order quail at a restraunt you are almost assuredly buying a (A&M quail).

Good to know I may have to raise a few, I have never ate quail that didn't have buckshot in it, that may be nice to try.

The size of a buckshot pellet compared to the size of a quail would be like a person getting hit with a .50bmg

Do you just collect feathers ?
