I was unaware that they had gone into bancruptcy. Since our family got out of the cattle business I have not kept up with much in the industry. I spent some time out there with Dr. Hesby.

The 40-employee company was the subject of a U.S. Department of Agriculture investigation in 2008 after one of its cows was confirmed to be infected with malignant catarrhal fever, a contagious disease that is fatal for cattle.

The cow was infected by a wildebeest from an exotic herd on the ranch, USDA officials said at the time. The company had to halt two cattle sales and eventually was forced to sell its entire registered herd of 3,000 cows.

I wonder if any non-contaminated embryos/semen will be sold at the dispersal sale in November...

Entire ranch has been for sale on landsoftexas.com for some time now.

Livestock dispersal sales from Cooley have been ongoing; I'm guessing all that's left is the land and improvements.
Those were some costly exotics....

In a press release a while back, the owner also cited a drop in value of his other holdings as reason for the sale. It did mention that the wildebeest deal was a lot more costly than they had imagined. (I think that was about how it was worded).
