My dad picked one of these up last week and I was lucky enough for him to give it to me. The gun is slightly used (has a few nicks and scratches, you can tell it has been shot a fair amount) but functions properly and shoots very well. The only other problem is the fiber optic tube for the Hi-Vis front sight is missing. He got it for $500. How is that price, given the condition?

Does anyone have any experience or opinions on Para Ordnance 1911's in general, or this model specifically? I don't know a lot about them, so I'm just looking for anything.

Also, I'll post some pictures once I get home and take some. Pardon the teaser for now...

Ok, so I found a text message he sent me. He also bought the Glock (G23) at the same time.

I have one Para product, a .45acp with a coated finish. It's been 100% for around 750-800 rounds now, and even functions quite well when really dirty. My only complaint is the the coated finish is not very durable, and seems to scratch easily.

I might have to get one of their LDA's at some point.....

I have a P14 .45 and it is difficult to find magazines.
The last round in a magazine will occasionally not feed.

Other than that, I like it.

I have a P16 with over 65,000 rounds through it. The barrel was replaced with a Kart barrel about 20,000 rounds ago.

Most of the internals have been replaced over the years...but the base gun is sound. You will enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Does anyone have any recommendations for replacing the front sight? Also, the rear sight is the plain black slotted style, and I wouldn't mind some kind of faster acquisition sights (maybe with dots) or night sights. Any recommendations on sight sets?

Wow. I hope I get to fire that many shots in my life with all guns combined.

Before I had kids a couple of years ago I fired 1200 to 1500 rounds per month in practise and matches. I am down to 600 or so now (spread over three pistols.)

Ag06, the rear sight on there is a great sight for match shooting. The front sight needs to be replaced with a fiber optic of some sort, or if this is a carry gun the night sights of your choice. The best option is to have a dovetail machined into the slide for the front sight, but you can get sights that fit the factory slot as well.

Thanks for the feedback.

Regarding the sights, do I need to look for sights that are designed specific to the Para P16, or would any 1911 type sights work? Any recommendations on sight brands or where to purchase them? Also, it's just a slot cut in the slide, so I'm assuming I can change it out myself, correct?

Dont know if the cut is a standard Colt cut or one that Para uses.

Installing a front sight like that is not too hard. You will need a few basic tools, a punch and a dremel tool. You basically flatten and grind off the base of the sight inside the slide after you put it on.

Contact Dawson Precision for info of the cut and some sight options.
