A Keg Shower

Has anyone ever used a keg shell, filled with water for a shower at deer camp? I've heard it is an easy way to transport clean water and an easy way to heat the water up for a nice shower in the brush.

I'm not exactly sure how I'd rig one up. If anyone has knowledge of this or has done this before please provide me with some tips. Thanks!

Also, what is a good heat source? Camp fire? Propane heater?

Water weight is constant. Doesn't matter if in a keg shell or otherwise. If you figure a way to heat the keg and then use co2 pressure to push the water out of a shower head then more power to you. A portable propane shower seems like a much more simple solution though.

It could be done. You could use a simple battery operated aquarium powerhead to supply a camp shower hose/head.

You will need more heat than you think. A high pressure turkey fryer (10psi +) would do the trick.

Hang drum/keg/camel stomach/water source above ground.

Run tubing down and coil a couple of times inside a metal box before exiting to shower head.

Place weed burner in metal box.

Adjust water flow or number of coils to get it right.

That's how we did the BBQ pit water supply.

OP didn't state that the rig would experience ambient temps below 32F for extended periods of time. If in Texas this is a non issue.

Those if us north of I-20 and above 3500'MSL would disagree.

We don't get many deer, but there are plenty of nice racks.

Funny enough, there are outdoors Ags all over the continent. Some of them might also be interested in the question.

Can't put a plastic bucket on a turkey fryer to thaw frozen water

Appreciate the posts...All ideas are welcome.

The Ranch is near Freer in South Texas. We have to go through 5 gates to get to our place...which means when we get there, we're staying there.

Unfortunately we do not have any electricity or water. We have to bring it all with us.

Just looking for a creative way to shower in the brush. Thanks Outdoor Board.

Can't put a keg on the fire, either. Aluminum has a pretty low melting point. And if you happen to forget to vent it, it could get interesting.

And using a keg isn't a bad idea, but a black water bucket would probably be better. Or you could look at some of the commercial products and decide to buy one or copy it.

Cut the top out of the keg, no problems heating it. Lots of guys use them to brew beer... me included.

15 gallons is a lot of shower water... hell, at our deer camp I've chiseled ice out of the bag, then had three guys get showered on ~ 5 gallons.

Now if you want a rubber ducky, shave your legs, kind of shower, then yeah, 15 gallons might not cut it.

I guess this is what PMS looks like in "Rock Springs Texas", because in Morgantown WV this is what "arguing with an idiot on the Internet" looks like. I don't know why you're so butthurt that I have a different opinion than you. The OP asked about a beer keg, not a black plastic bucket.

Some of you wannabe four points need to realize that there are big deer in these woods. Oh... And you misspelled Ragu.

You two numbskulls are arguing about aliminum vs black drum when clearly the only acceptable answer is vermilion!

Some of you have probably never taken 15 outdoor showers in your life and get on here and try to argue with someone who was taking outdoor showers long before you were probably ever born!

VERMILION!!!

I went two months in Iraq without a shower while switching between two pairs of cammies. You can suck it up for a few days in camp.

No Worries Ragoo…

Usually I do suck it up with no shower for a couple of days, but just recently it was really warm down there and I decided to "jump" a pond with some ducks. I army crawled to the bank not to scare up the ducks….little did I know that I would be absolutely covered in chigger bites.

A quick shower would have drastically reduced the bites.

I think I may go the commercial route rather than build one out of a keg. Thanks for all of the input outdoor board!
