For the folks with .308, where do you buy your plinking ammo?

Any brands better than others? Are there brands to avoid like the plague?

Lots of surplus ammo out there. I have had very good luck with West German DAG.

Its de-linked MG ammo, but the FMJ bullet is designed from a nickel alloy that really comes apart well in pigs. Military FMJ, unlike commercial FMJ, is designed to fragment in fluid mediums (like us) and the West Germans did a good job making a more lethal bullet than our m118 load (I guess since the party was going to be at their place, they took a little more interest...)

Its accurate enough in my bolt guns to 600 yards, so its a good plinking/hunting load. You can find it online for $250 per 500 or so.

I shoot Silver Bear for plinking. It's dirty, so I clean my rifle afterwards. But you can't beat the price.
There's a Cheaper than Dirt in N. Ft Worth (you have to go to the "Catalog counter" - long story) or a new one in McKinney so you can beat shipping costs.

I got a good deal on 1,000 rounds of West German surplus ammo last Spring. Worked out to about $0.50/round.

Thanks for the info.

I was snooping around Academy today and saw Monarch 145 gr. 20 rds. @ $10.50. Ever shoot that brand?
