Help me pick a 10/22 barrel

I picked up a Ruger 10/22 before Christmas to make a fun little bench/field plinker out of. I did some research on Rimfire Central, but a lot of those guys are a little too obsessive. This is a fun project for me, not a drive to make a perfect tack driver .22. It'll probably get used at the range, and maybe at a buddy's place shooting rabbits. That said, I have already ordered a Promag Archangel target stock http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/RGR083-1.html and a BSA scope for it. I'd like to add a barrel for it, but I don't want to spend more than $130 or so on it. Ideally, it would be an 18" barrel, blued, possibly fluted, and threaded for a suppressor.

OB, what can you find, and what do you recommend?

I don't know when I'll get a supressor, but I'd like to have a barrel ready for one. If no, Ican get the barrel threaded later.

I like the fluted barrel.

I LOVE my Green Mountain 16" barrel. Shoots ten shot groups into a dime at fifty yards.

Not sure if they are still making them, or what they cost, but Tactical Solutions made exactly what you are looking for, and they do make a very good product.

You could also get a non-threaded barrel and have it threaded. Again, not sure what the cost is.

Well, I'm not finding anything like what I want in an 18" barrel. Right now it's comeing down to either a 16.5" ER Shaw threaded barrel for $100, a Hi-Desert Dog 16" threaded and fluted for $160, or a Green Mountain 18" fluted, but not threaded for $109. I'm tempted to get the Green Mountain barrel and get it threaded later. Does anyone know how much that costs?

It should be around $50-75 to get it threaded. Ed Vandenberg is who I'd use.

In that price range, Hi desert is the way to go. I have a Tactical Solutions 16" and love it, but a little more than what you want to spend. Since they use an alloy barrel with steel sleeve, it's lighter w/ my can on than with the factory barrel with no can.

2 thing I would recommend right up front:

1) Get a good trigger for it. Makes shooting it immensley more enjoyable. Power Custom and Volquartzen make good ones that are easy to install.

2). Go with a Tactical Solutions barrel. Light, accurate and already threaded. I love mine - installed it after having a Green Mountain 20" bull barrel on it for a few years.

If you know that you will do nothing but shoot from a bench, the heavy barrel is great. But if you will take it to the field at all, the Tac Sol barrel is the choice to make every day and twice on sundays.
