Moultrie EZ Fill feeder problem...

Have the two of the above feeders, modified with one piece longer legs to get it higher and more sturdy. This is the feeder with the controller on the side, and wires that run internally to the motor below.

Put them up three weeks ago, and on first check last week both were working fine.

Was a lease today, and checked feeders. One was working just fine, and the other would not run on test mode. The timer reads fine like everything is OK, but the motor does not spin. Took the bottom cover off and no obstructions and all was clean. Plate spins fine with fingers. Wire connections to motor looked good. Had read about water issues in motor housing coming into housing via wires, but drilled three 1/8" holes in bottom. No evidence of water.

I did wrap the wire connection very well with electricians tape, so I doubt it came loose. Could not see it as feeder was full of corn and was getting dark so no time to bail it out.

Anyone with these feeders have similar problems?

I'm guessing it is probably a bad motor, but did not have a voltage tester to see if it was getting juice. Could it be a bad controller if all looked OK?

Assistance appreciated.

My guess was going to be the connection to the motor. I came across that problem on one of my feeders this weekend

AZAG08,

You have the same feeder, or a different one?

If the same, was it a connection at the motor, or inside the feeder where the control wires connect with the clip?

TIA

Check both connections and try a different battery as well. I have had bad batteries that would put out enough juice to light up the display but not spin the feeder.

BlueDuck,

I will change the battery to see if that is it. However, I doubt that too, as the built in battery meter read 100% just like the other, and I removed it till the display went dead and reinstalled it with the same malfuntion.

I will probably buy another feeder, and be prepared to R&R the feeder on the custom legs so when we bail out the corn if the interior wire connection is good. Will use the same legs since besides being one piece, I installed the Sharks Teeth varmint protectors.

At least that way we can be up an running again with a week till season opener. Then warranty the bad unit and have an extra.

Just a darn pain with two weeks till season.

I understand the frustration. I haven't had real good luck with the moultrie feeders. I have one of their cheapest cameras that has worked for about 4 years now but I have never gotten much distance out of the feeders or batteries. If you are using a rechargeable battery try sticking a Duracell or Energizer in there and see what happens.

Not rechargeable battery. Energizer Industrial model.

You are right about frustration.

Have overcome almost every obstacle so far with getting a lease so late, and will this one too. But this one was not figured into the equasion. Thought we were huntable, with the only thing left was camp set up, which is being finalized next weekend and the two days prior to season opener.

IF all goes well, just assembly during the week of the feeder itself and about an hour or so with the R and R of the feeder on the legs. Wife has been great about helping with the lease partner out of town a long ways and not being able to be there for most of it. And she knows she will be there for the feeder fix. Trooper.

Guess she will get a bottle of really good Vodka opening weekend with a license to consume in quantity at camp. She darn well deserves it.
