How long do you want to ignore this user?
I recently bought an AR-15, and I am trying to put a free-float quad rail on. I have an action block, vise, and armorer's wrench, but I can't get the dang delta ring off. I've read that you have to turn counter clockwise with it, but I've tried both directions and get nowhere.

Do I just need to give up and take it in somewhere? does burdett and son do this kind of thing?

I'm new to the black gun club, and would appreciate any pointers.

Btw, I've removed the gas block, tube and handguard.

Snap ring pliers. If you're in the North Dallas area, I've got a pair, and even installed a delta ring/weld spring/snap ring on a FN A2 barrel this past Sunday.

i'm in college station. I need to remove the barrel nut as well for the free float, so even if i get the delta ring off, that won't help me with the barrel nut will it?

You need to remove the taper pins from the FSB, then tap it off. You'll need to punch them out from the left side to the right side.

Lots more info here:

They can be a real bear. You need a good vise, and you may have to really lay into it. Some makers used to use some sort of lock tight, newer uppers I have worked on had no lube at all and that made them REALLY tight to get off.

Use a bigger hammer. If that doesnt work, take it up to Burdett's and Barry can twist it off for you pretty easily.

I wish I knew just a little more about ARs so that I didn't waste my time opening these threads.

I was like "Delta Ring"? What is that? ...then I found out.

I like the AR-15 link. I've been interested in getting a LaRue rail for my Colt but I was a little scared to take on the installation. Looking at those instructions though it doesn't seem all that difficult (except I don't have any of the tools to do it).

thanks for the link log. Lots of good info on there.

like i said, I already had the gas block off, just trying to get the barrel nut and delta ring off. might try again, and if I have no luck, will run by burdett's.

Sorry Sean if the title was misleading and had you thinking about slumpbusters or something.

Try a breaker bar over the end of your wrench to get a little more leverage.

If you've got a heat gun, you can also use it to heat up the barrel nut. It's steel and expands at a different rate than the aluminum receiver.

<Maybe run it by Burdett's and see if they can lend a hand.
