Since someone here probably knows and I'm too lazy to look it up myself, is it legal to shoot teal with lead shot if you're not hunting over water? As in, you're hunting dove near but not right over a tank and happen to see some teal flying in?

If you drop a duck, you're not even allowed to have lead shot on you, much less shoot the duck with it.

Also, out of season.

yeah, I know. I was thinking about next season.

the situation occurred about a week ago and not being sure of the legality, I passed on the shot

better safe than sorry

jaybel wins this round. upland hunting with steel is a better option than getting caught with lead and steel and have a bagged waterfowl.

Note: Sandhill cranes can be shot with lead or steel.

Go freaking figure. The Feds know that waterfowl hunters hunt cranes over areas that contain lots of different types of birds and they know that birds eat the lead shot, shot at cranes but they don't change this law.... Stupid.
